Hi
I was wondering about my chances at a college like university of Michigan or Boston, or even an ivy league school. As of junior year, I am in NHS, editor of the school newspaper (participated since middle of sophomore year) in yearbook club (since freshman), and maybe one more thing. I am on the teen advisory board at the public library since freshman year. I also started a club at my school, a buddy club of sorts, to mentor and advise freshman, and hopefully this shows initiative. On the weekends I volunteer at a shelter, and in about a year I get 90 hours and hav been doing that since freshman year. I also went abroad for about 2 weeks to help collect trash and build homes and stuff in remote villages. Last summer I went to India and volunteered at an orphanage everyday for a couple of weeks, which was like 50 hours. In the summer after freshman year i went to a two week science progrM, and then this summer (after sophomore year) im going to a six week biology research camp in Iowa where we do science research and write a paper, or a research volunteer thing in a hospital, which is similar, but not as prestegious. After junior year, during the summer I plan to visit campuses, volunteer a lot, and get a job. I took 1 ap class in freshman year (human geo), 2 ap classes sophomore year (calc and world hist) and I am taking 3 ap classes this year, junior year, (bio, chem, english). Next year I will be taking 3 or 4 ap classes (statistics, english, psychology, and maybe econ). I am taking spanish 4 this year and that will be it for language, none senior year, since i already will hav 4 credits. I hav been taking orchestra since 5th grade and I am 3rd chair cello. I also take private lessons. My sat is about 2200 and my act is about 34, but I still hav time to improve 100 on sat and 1 or 2 on act. My gpa is 4.0. Do u guys think I hav enough extracurriulars and leaderships positions and volunteer hours and is my gpa and sat and act scores good enough to get me into the university of Michigan? I know you can't really say for sure, but it would be nice to know if my ec's,leadership positions, volunteering, and academics are up to par. Also, if u go to u of m, Boston, Stanford, an ivy league school, or some school in this range, please let me know what stuff you did in high school, so that I know I am in the same playing field. I also want to be able to relax knowing that what I am doing is enough to go to a highly selective school. And by the way, I want to major in medicine, hence all the science stuff.
Thanks, and I am so sorry about the length, bad grammar, and punctuation!

Yes. Can you afford out of state tuition at UMich?

China called. They want their wall back.

But in all seriousness, you have a good shot at all your schools. Ivies are always hit or miss but BC and UMich are safer matches.

I’m from Michigan, so that’s in-state.

Haha lol…
Thanks. That’s wat I was thinking about Michigan too. Although going to Stanford, even though its not Ivy League, would be a dream come true… But the others are ok too.

This sounds like it was an incredibly important experience to you …

Please make use of the “enter” button. Walls of text are incredibly difficult to read, especially in electronic media.

Don’t retake the 34 ACT unless it was your first time. Don’t do any additional prep. The difference between a 34 and a 36 is the version of the test and how you were feeling that day.

You sound like you’re in good shape for U of M. Just try not to make your ECs sound like a laundry list of activities that you participated in but don’t care about. That’s definitely how it came across here. Make them compelling. Pick the most important and write your essay about it.

I’m having trouble coming to terms with this:

Well thanks for your suggestions. I was in a hurry typing this and it was on an iPad, so it was hard to type. Also, I understand how my activities come across, but this was just meant to be a brief list. On the application I will make it sound much better, so that my interest in these activities shows through positively. But thanks :)
