Chances at university of Southern california

Hi! So I know I have almost a 0% chance but… I guess applying is better than not. So I have a 3.0 and a 26 act. My grades were mostly cs and bs freshman and sophomore year due to me not working hard enough and junior they were a mix of as and bs. I will have taken a total of 3 ap and 4 honors classes by the time hs ends. I am Hispanic so I don’t know if that helps admissions. I have 50+ hours of volunteering and have had a job 2 years. I know this school is super hard to get into, do you think it would be wasteful to apply?

Based on the common dataset for USC 2018, only 3.46% of admitted applicants had a GPA of 3.0 and 18.39% had an ACT of 24-29. Unless you are a recruited athlete or having something very specific USC would want, you chances are low.

If you have your heart set on applying, then apply but be realistic with your chances. You need to find schools that match your stats and not try to make your stats match a school.

What other schools are you looking at? What is your criteria and what you can afford?

Thanks! And I am looking at other schools that are a better fit such as Indiana university and have already gotten into others! I’m just looking here as a far out reach school

Also since they have you send a mindyear transcript would it help my application if I sent in straight As w ap classes from this semester

Unfortunately, getting into USC going to be very difficult for you unless you have an alumni connection or your parents have a lot of money. But definitely still apply, you never know. And if you could get your ACT up to 30+, you would be in better shape. There’s still time.

Having alumni connections or wealthy parents (unless your parents contributed $$M to have a building named after them) would not help. It all about grades, SAT/ACT scores and a holistic approach.
