So I’m a gymnast… I’m not recruited. I’d be a walk on for Penns team but the coach said he sent my name to admissions to let them know that he wants me on the team a lot. My ACT score was weak… 27.
I am in NHS, Chemistry Club, and a senior representative for student council. I was in HOSA last year. I practice 22 hours a week, plus coach boys gymnastics a couple hours a week so I don’t have much time for extra curriculars other than those. I volunteer every Sunday at church and every few Sunday’s dance at a local nursing home. In the summer I help train dogs for special services.
My GPA is 4.45W and 3.95UW. I have taken every honors and AP class offered at my school (only 5… Poor town).
Do you think I’ll actually get admitted?
Also I’m an African American female and applied for chemical engineering.
Your ACT is low. Try to improve it to at least a 32 and your chances will be strong.
Good hook, coupled with athletics and great grades. In my opinion, you’re probably in.
@Burdened even though I’m only a walk on?
@Ringer01 I’ll be frank. Your grades are great, your extra curriculars are good and your ACT is passable (I would work on this part of your application). The athletic aspect is helpful but, “Also I’m an African American female and applied for chemical engineering.” is where you’re more of an interesting applicant. You’re not only URM but also a woman pursuing STEM, something highly sought for currently by college admissions. This is not to diminish your hard work, because your grades, extracurriculars and involvement in sports are obviously fruits of your labor, but your hooks, in my opinion, push you to highly desired by college admissions.
@Burdened okay. Thank you. I sure hope you’re right!
