Chances... EECS at Cal!

UC GPA: I’m not exactly sure, but according to tlaktan, it’s about 4.43
Course List:

Standardized Test Scores:
SAT I: 1530 (730 V, 800 M)
SAT II: 770 W, 800 IIC, 800 Chem
AP: Stats - 5, Comp Sci - 5, APUSH - 4, Chem - 5… taking 6 more AP tests this year

Class Rank:
School doesn’t rank, but probably top <5%

Community Service:
250 hours - 175 hours at a shelter and 75 hours at a library

Essays: OK

School: Upper middle class area, suburban, relatively competitive

Hi, what are my chances for admission to EECS at Berkeley? I’m an in-stater by the way.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Ooo forgot to add

ECs: Violin for 6 years (no awards though), a few clubs

Awards: National Merit Semi (probably Finalist)

Are you friggin kidding me? You're in. Are you trying Ivies and Stanford as well?

EECS is Cal's hardest major to get into. Any other major and you could be 100% sure of acceptance with your numbers. But since you're EECS, you can only be 96% sure.

Umm, I think EECS average SAT is 1550. And thats Best One sitting score. Not best verbal + best math. That might be the only risky part of your app.

Berkeley engineering has the most women out of any engineering program as well. Which is a huge reason why some engineers prefer Berkeley over other programs.

WestSiDe do they differentiate between Undeclared and Undeclared-PreBiz (for Haas)?

I'm not sure, but you can apply to Haas as an undeclared. Considering how many people apply to Haas, I imagine it would be more competitive for that.

But in all honesty, a lot of investment banking recruiters in 2000 tried to make a concerted effort to hire non-business majors. They wanted more diverse perspectives, and hired just as many PEIS/Econ/Engineering majors as Haas majors at my previous firm. But this is assuming that you had the similar internships as Haas majors.

Nope, just Caltech (big reach). I don't have the ECs for HYPS :(

I only took the SAT I once. My 1530 is a single sitting score. Anyway... 1550 average!!!! That's insane

I wish I were as optimistic as you... ECs = "important factor". And look at my awards. Ahem I mean award.

EECS has an 11% acceptance rate. How many people who have no chance for admission actually apply?

^^

its hard to tell because they dont release numbers. i wish they did though. personally, i think you have an excellent chance. you might save time on a few requirements here because of your CC/AP stuff too :)

Dude, if you don't get in there is something wrong. Caltech is a bit iffy but Berkeley is a safety for you.

It's an 11% acceptance rate because they save the seats for people like you. Don't worry too much, with those stats you're guaranteed a spot somewhere great.

Does the admissions office care about declared majors from applicants outside of EECS? For majors in L&S, will they use SAT-II/AP scores to determine whether a candidate is fit for the major, let alone Cal?
