Since your previous advice to another applicant was that if you’re Asian and have no hooks you have no chance so…

^oof

I have my essays hooks and such but otherwise, what do you think?

I’m no expert, but looking at your past posts your rank seems a bit off, and if your weighted gpa is a 4.0 that may be a cause for concern as far as course rigor goes as weighted is out of 5, but I mean I don’t really know the classes you’re taking. Do you have any interesting hooks or compelling reason for you to be a good fit for the schools you listed? that would be really important as most of these schools use a holistic process. Much of these schools seem to be reaches though, not just for you but for most so don’t be offended. At the end of the day this is a total crapshoot and it’s hard to gauge your chances by a bullet pointed list when there are many factors that weigh in. Also, I may be a total dumbass who has no idea what they’re talking about. You seem qualified, but so does almost everyone who applies. Do you have anything strong and character defining that separates you from the bunch?

Also, this is me being nice. Usually people aren’t nice to other people who rate the severity of strangers’ family situations. So, maybe take that into consideration when establishing the character you want to be presented as for your applications

I am going to say that is a pretty extensive list, full of school that are very different from each other. If you are applying to every single school on that list…you haven’t done your homework and selected schools based on what you want, it seems like you picked just on name/reputation. You absolutely have great stats, but honestly there was nothing in your profile that stands out, you seem like another awesome achiever but pretty much in a cookie cutter mold. If you are applying to the whole list… I bet (3) will pick you, which three is a crap shoot, but I’d bet not Harvard or Brown. I hope you narrow it down and pick a school or 2 that are not “lotteries”. I am surprised Carnegie Mellon is not on your list and think about U of Rochester… Good Luck!

I have to assume that you’re applying to the UC schools as well. There is no way you can put together strong applications for all of them.

Thank you all for your advice. I have a story which my teachers said was good. Yeah, they are all good schools but they do share a common trait of being good in STEM or having a specific education format. I included many schools that are not on my applying list per say. I just really wanted to see your opinion on them. If you see this could you discuss the schools near the bottom of the list as they are relatively easier. I know the crapshoot for them but if you see any chance just say the school. or if you have a suggestion. Many thanks

Hold up…so you included a bunch of schools on your chance me list that you have not/do not intend to apply, just cuz? Yeah, that’s not slightly rude or egocentric.

No I mean I am not sure about putting them on my official list. This is like a wish list that I need to shorten by a lot.

Reach except for like 5. As a senior you should already be working on these apps and have a solid list of around 10. Including matches and safeties you hopefully have aside from this list. Chances won’t help you narrow down this list. You have to actually do some research on these schools and their programs. You know which schools are the most reachy and which aren’t strictly by numbers and nothing about your app makes you “the exception”. Realize you’re average at the schools you’re suggesting, although the perfect score gives you a little leg up although it just makes you a coin flip with the next person who received a perfect score. Apply accordingly.

Everyone has a “type” where they will fit best. Do your research and visit to figure out which is yours. Wasting time applying to schools you do not fit because you have a chance is a waste of energy.
