That's a good (read "small") pile of applications to have yours in. They will be interested in your app. Based on the limited information you provided, I would say that you are certainly a viable applicant at Swarthmore.

Your top class rank at a very competitive HS is strong. IMO, academic performance in high school is the single most important admissions factor at Swat.

Depending on the context, the SAT scores are probably OK. It would be nice if you could bump up the Writing a little bit. If you've only taken them once, it might make sense to give it one more shot.

Things like ethnicity and early decision could make a big difference in your odds...as would the quality of your application (essays, etc.) as a whole.

Being from Jersey, I would certainly take the opportunity to travel down to Swat a couple of times this fall (take the train). Get to know the Engineering department, the music department, etc. The more you get to know the school, the better job you'll do with your application.

ID's advice is very good and thorough, as usual.

Your "interest in engineering as a female" will probably help, but you have to realize that you are not "applying for engineering program". Unlike at some schools where you have to apply to specific school, or even a specific major, at Swarthmore you are applying to the college in general. Once accepted, you can choose to pursue any major you want (and change your mind about it).

Just curious....I've just started really looking into the LAC's (Haverford, Swarthmore) and I'm wondering how being an Indian male would look?

I'm wondering because I'm applying to med programs at other schools where Indian male is supposedly the most disadvantaged group, and so it would be refreshing to have an advantage at LAC's.

You would not be disadvantaged in admissions at Swarthmore. The school is about 17% Asian American (the category that includes US students of Indian descent).

The admissions rate for Asian Americans is considerably higher than the overall admissions rate. I suspect that does not mean there is an advantage, but rather the applicant pool is very strong. However, it's a safe assumption that Asian American applicants at least get a fair shake.
