I’m a hopeful major in astrophysics and mathematics, the 2 schools I’ve selected are competitive, Caltech obviously is the more competitive one. Here are my statistics. Some have ended up being rather lopsided.
Unweighted GPA is a 3.71
Took SAT during my Freshman year, scored a 2220. My second run of the SAT gave me a 2380.
I attend a Math and Science institution, along with a normal high school. My math and science Institution does not provide student percentiles, nor does my high school.
- My class structure - Only stand out classes.
-Freshman: Pre-Calculus, Accelerated Chemistry, Accelerated English, AP Physics 1
-Sophomore: AP World History, AP Calculus AB/BC combine (This is a 3 semester course combined into 2), AP Physics 2/B, AP Chemistry, rest are accelerated
I took Multivariate Calculus over the summer, received the highest marks in class.
-Junior: Discrete Mathematics, AP Language, Latin, Computational Mathematics (University.) I became a protege to the Universities professor of Algebraic Topology and Multivariate Calculus this year, and have been up until this point. AP Physics C, All of my other classes are accelerated.
Will be taking economics over the summer. Along with an introduction to linear algebra
-Senior year, how it has been mapped out: Latin, AP American Government, AP Literature, Differential Equation and Matrix theory (University), and Linear Algebra (University).
I’ve received the highest marks in nearly every Math and Science class, but I do poorly in everything else.
Additional factors:
-Member of the local and state Astronomy society, have given several presentations on research, in particular on the accretion disks of Black holes, and general physics of Singularities. I’ve published 2 official articles of research, The first pertaining to the the subject listed above, the second one on Fluid Dynamics and it’s properties in the construction of our Solar System
- Volunteered 300+ teaching students at the local observatory how to use telescopes, and the basic information of what they may be viewing.
- Formed my high school Math Club, and Science Club. the Math club is now the largest club in High school, having nearly 30 members.
- I will likely complete my senior year with an Associates in Applied Mathematics.
- My instructor was an associate professor of Caltech for some time, I’m hoping his connection could assist me getting into the school.
- Given a public lecture at my high school, astronomy society, and community college on my first published article.
- AMC Mathematics qualifier 4 years in a row. Highest scores in state during my Sophomore year.
- National Merit Scholarship
- Davidson Fellows Scholarship
- Attempting a full-ride mathematics scholarship at UCLA
- 2 Gold medals in the International Mathematics Olympiad
My main reprimand is my low GPA. I have an extremely keen passion of Astrophysics and Mathematics. . . But, I have done legitimate research, and have records of my Volunteering hours and assistance at the state astronomy society for the last 4 years.
