chances for guy basically average

what schools would you recommend for matches (safeties) for me in the northeast particularly but others would be okay too.thanks

Desired major: probably high schoolTeacher...does anyone know if there is anyway you can teach different classes? Like I would like to teach bio, english, and math and can't decide which. is there any program to let teach all of those classes without going to school much longer.

GPA: not reported by school but figured it out to be around 94-95 uw and 98-99 weighted, hopefully to go up with this semester.

Rank: also not reported but would say definitely in the top 10% out of about 250 probably even top 5%

SAT: I am a junior now and took the SAT on a trial basis in june. got 1820, can definitely do better. 610 cr, 640 math, 570 writing (really goofed the essay!) I hope to do well on the pSATs and can definitely improve the math and writing for the SATs

ECs are where I fall back quite a bit. They are a little better this year, but I definitely should have gotten more involved last year and frosh year. You could say getting involved is not something I commonly do. I do however, have several awards for academics to put down and know some great teachers that would love to write me awesome recs. Although my SAT writing wasn't a good score, I could probably write a reasonable essay.

Any good matches or maybe some slight reaches? Any good colleges if I got a few more ECs?

Thanks so much and sorry for this being so long.

I forgot to mention. I am taking only AP Calc this semester but all my other classes (minus electives of course) are Honors. They have a new thing where kids cant double up because class sizes are too large; they were even gonna make me wait on the Calc. Next yr., i hope for ap bio, ap chem, ap physics, ap eng, and ap hist. I may want to double up and take span 4 and ap span but that would be mad hard. The only other aps my school offers other than those i am taking are Ap art (i suck at art) and Ap french (obviously cant take).

I may or may not take ap exams or sat 2s
Can you please tell me a couple safeties and answer that question by my major?

anyone please?

I am not a teacher, but I can tell you a couple of things. My son's tutor is allowed to teach three hs subjects in New Jersey. This is b/c he took enough classes to be eligible for certifaction. His undergraduate degree is in economics. He went through a teacher mentoring program to become certified to teach in a New Jersey public high school. He does not have a degree in education. He wants a masters in educuation to advance on the pay scale. He is certified to teach history, physical science, and one other subject (I do not recall, but I know it is not math b/c he would need many more classes to be certified to teach it).

There are many routes you can take to become a high school teacher. I would investigate your state schools b/c it will probably lead to an easier time getting licensed in the end. Additionally, it will put you into less debt if money is any issue. I think teaching is a wonderful career today and we always need good teachers. The pay is not great in the early years so you might want to consider a state school.

I agree with northeast mom. Going to an in-state public institution is usually the best way to get a good education for teaching and also the best way to get connections and licensing for a job. The first place that school systems look to find teachers is their in-state public education schools.

It's wonderful that you want to be a teacher. It's such an important career! There is a lot of merit aid out their for students planning on teaching careers. The aid is especially available at public
universities.

Because it is extremely difficult to attract males into teaching careers, being male is an advantage when it comes to merit aid earmarked for education majors.

Your teachers and GC should be able to give you good advice about where to apply to for the best preparation and opportunities for teaching careers. I bet they'll be happy that you plan to become an educator.
