Chances for homeschooler at CMC and W&M

<p>Hi! Can you please chance me? I know colleges like to see homeschoolers taking college courses, but my homeschool program is accredited, so I've never taken any. The program is recognized as a private school. So even though I'm homeschooled, I'm technically enrolled in a private school (it has official transcripts and its own college counselor, etc). Also, my program offers the same curriculum to everyone, so they don't offer AP, Honors, or Advanced. However, the program is exceptionally rigorous and meant to be an advanced curriculum for everyone.
Please chance me for College of William and Mary (I'm out of state) and Claremont McKenna College</p>

<p>SAT I: 2050 (700 CR, 670 M)
SAT II: 800 Literature, 670 Math I, 590 Latin (I know the Latin isn't great, but I wanted to send it anyway so colleges would know that I know <em>some</em> Latin)
GPA: UW 4.0 (all four years of high school)
Class Rank: N/A</p>

<p>High school curriculum credits: 4 English, 4 Religion, 2 History, 3 Math, 3 Foreign Language (school offers only three years), 1 Government, 1 Geography, 3 Extracurricular English courses (I want to major in English), +3 other extracurricular courses (I will graduate with 24 high school credits)</p>

<p>ECs: Piano (10 years, never competed), President of Debate Club, 600+ Volunteer hours, regular babysitting jobs for past 4 years, church youth group (since middle school), Running (I train and compete on my own), Swimming, Golf</p>

<p>Recommendations: I have 6 total--two are probably just generic, but the other four people really love me and I know will write me glowing recommendations</p>

<p>Essays: My Common App essay is great. My W&M essay is really good. My CMC essays were probably good enough. </p>

<p>Did you forget to list your science classes? I’m wondering how you even can get a high school diploma without science–isn’t it required in your state?</p>

<p>If you really haven’t taken any science, your coursework is missing a lot of William and Mary’s recommendations for admission. They are just recommendations, but it seems to me that you would have to do something else of more note that what you’ve listed if you are going to come up so short (6 classes!) in what they like to see–4 years math through calculus, 4 years foreign language, 4 years science. </p>

<p>I apologize! Yes, I have taken 2 years of science–physical science (A-) and biology (A+)</p>

<p>Hmm. Well, you are missing 4 courses they would have preferred to see, you didn’t take a science SAT2 test, which they do recommend for home schoolers, and your SAT scores are average for W+M. And you’re out of state. Do you have publications or writing awards? That might help for a prospective English major. Maybe your essays will impress them, but if I were you, I’d make sure I have a good safety.</p>

<p>Thank you for the input–I have been accepted into my safety school already. Have you had any experience applying to W&M? Also, can you please tell me where you found the course work information concerning W&M? I can’t find it on their homeschool page. </p>

<p>No, I don’t have any special experience with W&M, other than knowing a handful of alums and applicants. I researched it when helping search for colleges for my daughter (Seems like a nice school but we decided it didn’t suit her interests). I don’t generally even look at chances threads because I don’t think the vast majority of people on here can say much that you can’t figure out for yourself anyhow. Myself included. Less, really, because you have a much better idea how good your essays and EC’s are. Most kids attending schools will have a pretty good idea where they stand anyhow (and I don’t know why so many of them come on here and ask total strangers), but I think this can be difficult for kids at schools where few students attend college at all, or for homeschoolers. I just randomly looked at your thread and decided to respond because I was concerned about you not mentioning science classes. Good luck.</p>
