-High School Academic Honors: High Honor Roll, Academic Letter, Foreign Language Honor Society, Nat'l Honor Society, Dominican Service Award (200+ service hours).

ECs:
-Debate (4 yrs, president)
-Girl Scouts (12 years, lots of leadership positions)
-church outreach team (lots of leadership, lead retreats all over the state, 3 yrs)
-Fantasy/Science Fiction club (founder, president)
-Color Guard (captain, choreographer, 4 years, varsity letters)
-Band (section leader 4 years, secretary 2 years)
-Video Game Club (3 years, this is my random fun club)

Strongly interested in international studies/foreign languages, which I mention in my essays.

Interviewed at and visited all schools. Interviews went well (I hope).

Also, what are my chances for scholarship money? Since these schools are somewhat out of reach for my family...we are middle class, so I'm not counting on a ton of need-based aid, but it is still out of reach (as most things that cost $40,000 a year are, right?)

Applying early action to Dickinson, regular to Mac and Carleton.

Judging from my brother’s experience with Dickinson, the school seems to evaluate applicants in a very holistic manner.

He was accepted in 2008 with an UW GPA of around a 3.3 at a mediocre public school (he didn’t take all Honors, either!) He stayed true to his passions throughout high school (the environment and writing) which I think made him stand out.

So, I’d say that you have a great shot at being accepted to Dickinson. Just make sure that your essay and recs shine!

bump 10 char

Anyone know about Carleton and Mac? I ask because three girls from my school, with very similar and/or higher grades, scores, etc. applied last year and the year before that. All three were rejected. I’m probably worrying needlessly, but…

Carleton costs this year are $52K, Mac $49K. Both schools meet full need for four years of accepted students.
I think you’re definitely in the ballpark (right around the median scores) for both schools. Carleton’s SATs and ACTs are very slightly higher, but both schools will look at the entire package and you’ve got good ECs showing commitment over time and leadership. I didn’t see much in the way of specifics on the Mac site about what they’re looking for. Carleton says “The committee asks questions such as: How active have you been in your school and community? Have you been involved in sports, student government, your church, synagogue or other religious community? Are you someone who will lead? Do you have a sense of humor?” (I like that last one! I wonder how many schools specifically look for it.)

Mac has a slightly higher acceptance rate, but it’s hard to know how much “self-selecting” happens.
Overall, I’d say you have a good shot at either, but there are many things out of your control. Your resume is enough for me to be sure you’ll be great wherever you go and only one school is going to be lucky enough to benefit:)
