Work:
I work ~40 hours every week at my family's restaurant and have done so since 7th grade.

As a whole, stats are good, but where is your ACT/SAT score?? Your PSAT score of 186 isn’t indicative of your SAT, and you’d want atleast a 2250 to stay competitive. I see working at the restaurant takes up most of your time, which is okay, but it would be more helpful to you if you can find time for other activities. Especially with leadership roles and such. Otherwise, you stand an average shot at these two schools, which are tough for anyone! Good luck!

Chance me back please?

I would say its still a little early to chance you because you still have half of your high school career ahead of you. You seem to be challenging yourself well. I would say improve you ECs a bit. As in maybe play a sport or something? another club? volunteering? Of course, it may be hard to find time for that with work. Good job!

In my opinion, i think that you have a decent chance for Ivies(as now disregarding the SAT or ACT score), but if you work your next year really hard (ex: participate in competitions, take APs, etc) you would have a great shot at all of them. Finally it somehow depends on your SAT score. Keep in mind that Ivy school is not a guaranteed chance even if you have a remarkable stat. Good luck.

@smarty99: I’m going to be going into 11th grade next year, so I haven’t had a chance to take it yet.

I intend to take the SAT in early 2014. If I get in the 2000s, I’ll go ahead and take the SAT II Subject Tests and apply for these upper-tier schools. Otherwise, I’ll just stick with Purdue. My school doesn’t do a lot of “leadership roles”.

@picklechicken37: Working ~40 hours a week pretty much kills any chance I have to do ECs. The only reason I get do my current ECs are because they fit my schedule pretty well. I do have days off at work. For example, cross country practices every weekday, but managers don’t do anything during these. All meets are on Tuesday after school and Saturday morning, both of which I have off from work.

Also, did you want me to chance you back? If so, please provide a link.

@j52360062003: I can realistically expect to get somewhere in the low 2000s for the SATs. I’m not planning on taking the ACTs. Thanks!

What is your ACT and SAT?
I think you have a good chance at all of the ivies except Harvard and Yale. but ivy schools are difficult to get accepted into for everyone, but you have a good chance.
chance back please http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1538061-quick-question.html

@152422: I’m currently too young to take those. I intend to take it in early 2014.

Your GPA is great, and work hard to get a good SAT score. You scored 186 on the PSAT, and you’ll have to do a lot better (like 2200) on the SAT if you want a shot. Good ECs.

If you could chance me, that would be great!

Just write really good essays and get really good recs. That’s what’s going to set you apart the most from the pool of high achievers schools like MIT have to pick from. Some research or a summer program of some kind would be helpful, but they’re hard to find. The MIT admissions office has some blogs with helpful advice if you haven’t found those already.
Could you chance me back?
