Chances for my daughter at Florida State

Calcruzer, please note where I said in post #18 the CDS does not give average SAT scores, they come from the university webpages.

FSU's average SAT scores may be found here: http://www.ir.fsu.edu/Performance_Indicators/Major/Mj05.pdf

UCF's average SAT scores may be found here: http://www.iroffice.ucf.edu/character/current.html

Note that these university pages only give the Fall semester average, typically the highest for any university.

Sorry for not posting the links earlier.

FSU's FTIC stats for Fall 2008 will be higher. No public details have been released, but here's a newspaper article on the drop in acceptance rate at Florida State: http://www.tallahassee.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070430/BREAKINGNEWS/70430031

Further, FSU, UF (and to a lower degree USF) are likely to be designated top research universities in Florida by the Florida Legislature. Central Florida did not qualify for this ranking, based on objective standards in Florida law.

WOW!??? All I wanted to know was if my daughter stood a chance being OOS. We realize she needs to improve her SAT and is re-taking it next month. My point of consideration is that she has good grades with AP classes, a definite career goal with very good EC connection, and a recommendation from a state attorney general investigator. Would this help? Also, if we made clear that FSU was first choice and made contact with Criminology department make a difference?

I am aware of FSU's acceptance averages and realize that they do not accept a large percentage of OOS. We really like aspects of their Criminology/Criminal Justice program and love the area. We would like to know if we are at least in the ballpark. Thanks for all the responses.

The better engaged you are with the university the better your chances are, OOS or not. FSU received some 30,000 applications for Fall 2008. The more they recognize your application the better. :)

Honestly, I'd say she needs to get her SAT or ACT above the the average (perhaps a prep course?) Her top 10% rating helps. APs always help - the more the better. Her grades look good.
