GPA: Will be 3.6+ at graduation.
Top 30%
Lots of extracurriculars (varsity athlete, community service, et al)
ACT: currently 26, will retake it and get a 28 minimum
By graduation will have taken 5 AP classes, 3 honors classes (the only classes that my school offers honors in are foreign language). Considering self-studying for a few APs.

Well what's your GPA now? Colleges will be making the decision before they even see your Final grades.

3.56-3.58. Actually, before the end of the first semester (when I'll be applying) it'll be 3.6. By graduation, probably 3.65+ based on my trend

Woah, you're applying to many of the same schools I am. The three Jesuit ones (Marquette, Creighton and maybe Seattle U), anyways. Cool deal. Good luck to us! (:

I probably won't end up applying to all of these - I was thinking it'll be about one per area, for example either Indiana U or Butler, but not both, for a total of about 12-13 schools.

Anyhow, it's great being part of the Jesuit network, because you have a HUGE advantage in admissions (with the exception of perhaps Georgetown). I actually go to Creighton's prep school.

Creighton's prep school? That's awesome, indeed. I went to a private school, too, but it wasn't Jesuit. I almost went to Gonzaga Prep, though, for 9th - 12th. (Currently dual-enrolled for my senior year at a college.) I'm actually not Catholic--I just appreciate the way they teach things and the "focus" on character, etc.

I'll assume you've been around Do you like the area Creighton is in? Do you like the feel on campus? How would you describe the overall feel? Pretty relaxed or?

You seem right on track. Your reaches are ultimately realistic.

Yeah, I go to Creighton Prep. I'm not Catholic either, but it's best high school in the state by far and I had most of my tuition covered because I was "recruited" for athletics.

As for Creighton, the campus is beautiful and is situated in downtown Omaha, which allows for access to the Qwest Center (top 10 selling arena in the world, we get tons of big name concerts, etc.), among other things. Omaha is a strange place, because one moment you can be in a ritzy neighborhood and if you go a few blocks farther, you can be in the ghetto. Such is the case of Creighton. The area around the university isn't the best area, though it's not the worst in Omaha either. The campus is actually very safe though, because it's enclosed by the outer part of the campus, which provides natural security. I've never heard of any problems or concerns with safety.

A Creighton degree is VERY prestigious around here, and as you may know, Omaha is one of the largest business centers in the U.S. (We have the same ratio of Fortune 500 companies as Chicago does). Creighton does a great job setting people up with internships and they have a strong alumni backing. Most of the students at Creighton were very good high school students, so there is an intellectual atmosphere, but there's also a strong social scene. Creighton athletics have a big following around here. Since its a Jesuit school, it does have a religious atmosphere, so it is somewhat conservative in that regard.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks 8Bordel - what do you think my chances are for admission at my reaches?

i think that nyu and tulane might be shootin' a little to high. The others are a possibility however.

Thanks for your opinion Canes - I thought the same about NYU. (It's my "high reach" - I contemplated applying ED for it to better my chances)

As for Tulane - maybe I miscalculated my chances, but I thought that I had a fairly good chance of getting in based on the stats. I've also shown commitment/desire to attend there, since I've talked with admissions counselors and already began my applications process there.

According to Princeton Review:
Average GPA: 3.45
ACT Composite Middle 50%: 27-31

My current ACT I think is a bit low, but if I can manage to pull off at least the 28, I think I'll definitely be competitive.

Opinions?

Should I ED for NYU?

The average GPA given for Tulane seems a bit low to me, can anyone verify?

To the top.

Bump - input?
