Chances for Ohio State

I'm a junior starting to contemplate college.

Demographic information:

White, male, Appalachian Ohio, Catholic.

Academic information:

3.75 GPA weighted

35th in class of about 90 (Small, competitive school)

29 on ACT

1890 on SAT

Classes:

I will graduate with 5.5 credits of social studies, including 1 honors class and 2-3 college classes (I was going to take an easy social studies elective but I want to challenge myself by getting my schedule changed to add a college class, if the administration lets me) 4 credits of English (4 years honors, including 1 year AP), 4 credits of math (none honors, math is my weak subject), four years of French (2 years honors, won awards), 3-3.5 credits of laboratory science (1 honors, 3.5 depends on if I can replace my other easy elective with a college science class), 3 credits of fine arts, and 1 credit of business.

Extracurricular:

Choir
Marching Band
Concert Band
Solo and Ensemble (Earned superior ratings every year I have gone)
Drama Club
Academic team (Varsity)
National Honor Society
Foreign Language Club
Active in Church

I need to get more recorded service hours (I've slacked a bit with that) but I fully intend to catch up with that.

Bumping the thread

OSU: Low match (OSU has more in-staters from Columbus and Cleveland than from anywhere else, so I believe Appalachian Ohio has an advantage)

Yeah, I’ve heard that they’re a bit easier on us Appalachians. I’m very good at writing, how much will my essay factor in?

I definitely think you’ve got a good shot. The only essay required for OSU is the Common Application one, unless you are applying for the Scholars program.

I don’t think I have to worry about getting into their Scholars program because my class rank isn’t high enough.

If I’m not going for a STEM degree, will the fact that my math and science grades are generally around a low B be less important?
