Hey everyone! I’m a 15 year old freshman who was accepted to a boarding school in her eighth grade year but was unable to attend due to financial reasons. I am thinking of applying to a few boarding schools next year to enter as either a second year sophomore or a junior.
I’m thinking of applying to Madeira School, Lake Forest Academy, Miss Porter’s School, Holderness School, Emma Willard School, Chatham Hall, and Mercersburg Academy.
I’m a white girl living in Indiana. I live with just my dad and he makes about $80k, if that matters. We are a 2 person household. I currently attend a large (2000 kid) public high school. I transferred from a much smaller high school in December due to issues related to domestic abuse and alcoholism (I lived with my Mom).
I have a 4.09 GPA with all Honors core classes. Next year I’m taking all Honors core classes, Dual-Credit Pre-Calculus, and maybe AP Psychology. I took the SSAT last year and scored a 2151, in the 84th percentile with no studying. I’m taking the SAT in August and expect around a 1350-1400 due to what I’m scoring on practice tests right now.
I have a couple of extracurriculars that I think are okay. At my old school, I was in Student Council and the Spanish Club. Now, I am on an academic team. I think we have a chance at making the state competition in my area of concentration. Also, I run a large online community of about 5000 people based on a very niche fandom. Lastly, I am an intern for a semi-pro/professional (I’m not sure what it’s considered) sports team in my city. In 8th grade I was NJHS president, ran track and cross country, and did a bunch of volunteer stuff, but I’m not sure I’d want to put this on an application I’ll be writing in my sophomore year.
As for awards, I was a Top Ten Scholar last semester, meaning I was in the top 10 students in my class. Last year, I won the President’s Award and 2 subject based awards for great achievements: Speech and Spanish.
My essays will be alright, I hope. I like to think I’m an alright writer, but I won’t know until I actually write them.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
