Chances for Regular Decision

I’m debating as to whether or not to apply RD or ED…financial aid is not a concern but I’m just a little hesitant to be tied to down to one school. Barnard is my #1, but I live in far away and am worried I’ll freak out and decide I want to stay near home and I want that option. But, at the same, I know I’ll have a better chance of getting in if I apply ED.

Anyway, chance me?

I go to an independent private school with a senior class of a little of 100 kids.
GPA: 3.78 (unweighted), 3.96 (weighted)
ACT Scores: 33 English, 27 Math, 31 Reading, 27 Science, 11 Writing

I have taken two years of honors English and honors Spanish, AP US History (scored a 4), and AP Human Geography (scored a 5). I also received a 730 on my US History Subject Test.

Senior Year Courseload: AP English Literature, AP US Government, Constitutional Law, World Religions, AP Spanish Language, Calculus, and Advanced Theatre.

Extracurriculurs: Theatre (acting, directing, sound design - awards won, hair and makeup, community theatre), Dance (tap, jazz, ballet), contributing writer for school newspaper, Cappies (a journalism program where you write theatre reviews of other schools productions…I had 11 reviews published last year and won the award for Best Junior Critic), Painting, volunteering at a soup kitchen

I’m a big English person so my essays are strong and I’m pretty sure my teacher recs will me strong.

What are my chances?? For regular decision versus early decision? Thanks! :)

You seem to be a strong candidate for either RD or ED. There is nothing in your posted stats that would suggest that your chances would be significantly different ED. ED does not have reduced standards for admission – the differential in admit rate is due to differences in admission criteria and the makeup of the admission pool during each phase. For example, certain admission hooks such as being a legacy or recruited athlete might be given more weight during ED.

Keep in mind that the majority of students accepted ED probably would also have been accepted in the RD round. Of all students accepted to Barnard, roughly 85% come in RD.

If you are not 100% sure that you want to attend Barnard, you should apply RD.
