Chances for Stanford (REA) WILL CHANCE BACK

You are clearly a very competitive applicant. Write great essays and and you might get into all of your schools. Also its a great idea to apply REA.

help people please

Most of what has been said on this thread is WRONG. An unhooked American student with your stats would have an extremely difficult chance getting into Stanford. An international student is going to have an even more difficult time. The acceptance rate is 5%, most of whom are American students. That’s just how life is. Priority is given to students within the country. You are competiting with the entire world when it comes to admissions in to Stanford. Not the regular applicant pool. The international applicants tend to have higher and better everything as well. If you do plan on applying, I do reccomend that you apply for aid. Because of Stanford’s huge endowment, they are need blind and meet full need for both domestic and international applicants. Why be full pay when you can pay less and not have it lower your chance at admissions?

EDIT: 92% of the 5% admitted are domestic students. That should give you an idea of how astromically low your chances are as an international applicant. Don’t get me wrong. You should definitely go for it! But if you get rejected on decision day, I don’t want you to be surprised because all these people on CC said you have a good chance. You don’t.

@nsoods: I’m quite familiar with squash recruiting in the US, and you’ve been going about things all wrong.

Your stats/ECs are incredible, as well as your UK squash ranking. With your high level of squash you would be a competitive VARSITY player on many teams. The only bad thing is that you picked a school that does not have squash as a varsity sport (only Stanford women have varsity status). Hence the advantage offered by squash recruiting is negated at Stanford, although Coach talbott might be able to pull some strings. What did he say when you contacted him about your interest?

Have you contacted any of the ivy league squash coaches and told them about yourself? I think many of the ivy league coaches would love to hear from someone like you (high AI/great squash ability). There are also many many non-Ivy colleges who are looking for international squash players with great academics who would jump at the chance to recruit you (Trinity, Williams, Amherst, Bates, etc).

I think you have a very good chance at getting into at least one or two of the schools you listed because you have excellent test scores, ecs, credentials, awards, involvement, etc. I think all you need is to write some killer essays. Write about something unique, only a story you can tell. If you destroy those essays I cant imagine that you would get turned down.

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1657051-what-are-my-chances-for-stanford-mit-caltech-etc.html#latest

Stanford is a reach for pretty much anyone but your scores and grades are good. The fact that you are a international student definitely helps you. Just have a great essay and I think that could really put you through.

@AnnieBeats‌ thanks for the feedback - Stanford is not needs-blind for international students, so maybe next time just check before you give advice. As for having “an extremely difficult chance”, of course it will, and of course even more so for an international applicant, but my question (as is everyones who posts here) is relative to other applicants (in this case international applicants), how competitive as an applicant am I, and where is my application deficient. I massively appreciate the help people like you give, but everything you told me is about applying to Stanford, and not about my application to Stanford.

I am trying to humble you. Forgive me for not being all knowing when it comes to Stanford. That was a lapse on my part, but you don’t have to be disrespectful because I didn’t lie to you and tell you that you have a good chance. Relative to other applicants, sure you are “competitive”. But most of the students applying, both domestic AND abroad, are competitive. So that means nothing. No one can tell you if your application is deficient or not. We don’t know all the details about your high school, financial situation, family history, and essays. If you are looking for deficiencies in your application, talk to your GC or find an independent counselor.

Lastly, you didn’t ask where you had any deficiencies in your application til just now. You asked what your chances were for getting into there, Harvard, Yale etc. I gave you a snapshot of your real chances. If you don’t like the fact that your chances are astronomically low at those schools, apply elsewhere. Have a nice day! :-)

i think you have a good chance for all of them, especially Columbia, Penn, Brown, USC. I don’t know much about Britain’s system, but as far as I can tell, with good essays and recommendations, you will have no problem getting in!

bump

Berkeley is full fee for you. So, if you don’t mind paying $60K US dollars, you’ll probably get in. The state-funded schools, like the UC’s, don’t have need-based aid for non-residents. They will possibly admit you for full fees.

You have very good scores. As a former undergraduate admissions officer I
would urge you if Stanford is your dream school I would apply early action.
Most school allow international students to apply early action.

All the best!

Wow… very impressive extracurriculars, definitely good enough for Stanford! very likely that you will be accepted, just make sure your essays really convey your passion and (evident) intellectual drive. Chance back if you have a minute? sorry I didn’t have much feedback but you’re already in good shape
