Chances for student coming out of WUSTL

Hi,

I am a student who is looking to potentially transfer out of WashU. I completed my first year there recently and wanted to know what my chances were of transferring into some schools of similar academic caliber to WashU.

Stats:
Current College: WUSTL CAS Math Major
College GPA 3.97
Math Major
High School GPA: 3.7-3.8 at a private school in MA
Test Scores: 36 C ACT, 10/12 Essay. 800 Math SAT II, 740 Physics SAT II
Pretty Decent ECs.

I would be looking to transfer into a school for my junior year. Currently, I am thinking of applying to Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Cornell and Rice. I was waitlisted at Rice and Vanderbilt coming out of HS, and rejected by Cornell.

What do you guys think my chances for admissions might be at these types of schools? Would there be any other similarly ranked schools I might fare well in transfer admissions for? Thank you!

Of the schools you listed, Vandy and Cornell are known for being transfer friendly. The others have very few transfer spots.

Are you getting any sort of financial aid? If so note that transfer admits don’t have as much FA as freshman.

Why do you want to transfer? That will be the main question. Unless you have a compelling answer, it will be difficult.

If they suspect that the reason for transfering is prestige it will likely result in a rejection.

Moreover, WashU is a “similarly ranked school” as Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Cornell, and Rice (at least by those places which rank “prestige”).

Why do you want to transfer?

Cornell is very transfer friendly. Since a lot of students move off campus after their first year, enrollment numbers matter the most for first years. I think that you would have a decent chance of getting into Cornell if you have a good reason to transfer.

A significant proportion of Cornell transfers are from NY community colleges who have articulation agreements with Cornell.
