-I am a junior, and I am definitely applying to UVA school of nursing...however I would really love anyone's opinion on whether or not I even stand a chance at getting in!
-I expect to have a 95 GPA by the end of the semester from a very difficult and well-known private school
-SAT Scores are: 720 math, 720 critical reading, and 740 writing
- I have extensive volunteer experience (over 400 hours to date, and I have won several awards for my service) and I am currently the head of a project to build a library for homeless women and children
- I have a lot of hospital experience (useful for nursing school) and I am working in a clinic this summer
-I have lettered 3 times as an Athletic Student Trainer
-I have made Honor Roll every semester of high school
-I scored a 221 on my PSAT, so I am hoping to be a National Merit Finalist
-I have also taken 3 honors classes and will take 6 APs by the end of high school

Your competitive but being OOS means absolutely no guarantee (no guarantee even if you were instate). GPA and SATs are strong. Make sure you explain how all the time you’ve spent in a hospital and working in a clinic this summer is why you know you want to be a nurse. Do not say you want UVA’s nursing program to be a stepping stone to becoming a doctor.

I think you have done a fantastic job in high school, so far! Looks like you are on the right track for UVA or other great nursing programs. Introduce yourself to them because they want to get to know students like you. Take time on your essays and try and weave a common thread through your entire application. Senior year gets very busy…try and get some apps done this summer.

Your stats look competitive thus far. I’m uncertain what your cumulative GPA is; if it’s a 3.8 + UW, you’re in the running. Try to get more 5s than 4s on your APs. UVA is tough for OOS, but I think you’ve got as good a chance as anyone. Do well this school year but try to have fun too – senior year goes by fast! (We’re going to D’s graduation tonight then it’s off to UVA this fall!) Good luck!
