Hi guys, I thought I’d do one of these as I start the college application process. Your thoughts and recommendations are really appreciated.
I would love to go to an Ivy League/top school, but I know that might be a stretch. Do you guys have any suggestions as to where I should apply?
GPA: 3.65 UW 4.45 W I definitely did not perform as well as I should have freshman and sophomore year, but I got a 3.9 and 4.0 each semester of junior year. Will this upward trend be noticed by admission officers, or is my low GPA insurmountable?
ACT: 32 (35E 29M 34R 32S) I have taken the ACT several times but will retake it in September.
SAT IIs: Waiting on Chem and Bio M
AP Scores (ones that I want to submit): Chemistry (4), Macroeconomics (4), Human Geography (4), US History (4)
I have taken a really rigorous schedule every year. Junior year I took 5 APs and 3 honors, senior year I plan on taking 6-7 APs.
Extracurriculars:
President of school’s Key Club
Leader of hospital’s young volunteer program (over 200 volunteers)
Executive committee of county’s youth council
Student representative of county’s corrections task force
National Honor Society
National Spanish Honor Society
In my sophomore year, I started a nonprofit to provide books to disadvantaged kids, and have received $8000 in books from major publishing companies and two grants (worth $1500). This project really took off and I should be renovating the library of my county’s juvenile detention center this fall (already received a $500 grant for it from my local bank.).
I work at a grocery store 10 hours per week.
Awards:
AP Scholar with Honor
President’s Volunteer Service Award Gold
My grocery store’s volunteer service award
Bronze on National Spanish Exam
Prudential Spirit of Community Local Honoree
Grants that I received for my nonprofit (applied for 10 grants so far, received 2 (haven’t heard back from other) these grants will go to renovating my county’s juvenile detention center’s library.
