I currently have All A’s at my university. Hoping to transfer as a Sophomore for Fall 2019 to a better school. I know my numbers and extracurriculars aren’t the best, but what are some schools I have a decent to low chance of transferring into?

You chose your current university for religious reasons. Why do you now think your parents will OK a transfer elsewhere?

Sort that out first. You need to know up front if there will be restrictions on where you can go.

I already sorted that out, thank you for your consideration though. Now it would be nice to get an honest opinion about my options of transfer schools that provide better educational opportunities than my current school.

Your chances of transferring to a better school depend upon the target school. For example, if targeting SMU, then you should be accepted, but if targeting Harvard or Stanford, then the odds are dramatically lower.

Since you have all As in college & since your ACT scores are excellent, you should have strong chance for admission to most colleges & universities as a transfer student.

HYPSM is out of the question. What about other top schools such as Brown, Columbia, USC, Georgetown, or vanderbilt? and what about Penn state?

Penn State should admit you as a transfer student.

how low would my chances at USC?

Have you finished one full semester at the university that you are currently attending? Can you tell us where you currently are attending?

Do you know your unweighted high school GPA? Also, do you have any budget restrictions?

I have not finished one semester at the university that i am attending ( Andrews University). my unweighted high school GPA was 3.6. I do not have any budget restrictions

If you can keep up the straight A’s, this should help you transfer at least by the end of sophomore year. I am pretty sure that there is no harm in applying to transfer at the end of your freshman year (starting as a sophomore at a new university). If you get accepted to a school that you like you are set. If you don’t, then applying again a year later merely makes the point that you are very serious about transferring. Of course, having one semester of A’s is good, having two or three semesters of A’s will be even more convincing.

There are thousands of universities in the US, and tens of universities that you are not likely to get accepted to. That leaves a lot to choose from. Can you explain what you would like in a university? Location, size, focus (arts versus high tech versus something else), preferred state?

Thanks for asking, I want a strong political science program. i would like to attend a relatively big school, but size wouldnt matter that much. Preferred state is california, but i wouldnt mind attending a school in any other state, maybe not in the deep south.
