How the **** are 90% of faculty Ph.D?

there's only like 16 teachers. i think only 1 or 2 don't have phds.

http://www.scgssm.org/academics/faculty_and_staff/

i think maybe the number is more around 80%. but.. we have several adjunct faculty members from a local college who have phd's .

I think your in at UNC CH EA and have a great shot at UCHI EA...Id say duke is a match and HYPS are s;ight reaches-match just cuz how can you tell someone they'll ddef get into one of those lol.

def use your ACT

thanks for the advice, but i think i'm going to end up submitting the SAT II's. I'm very confident that i can ace those, based on practice tests, and I think i might possibly take the SAT I once more to improve my score. My writing is def. bringing me down, cuz my highest score is 660. (i got a 35 on English ACT though, which was weird?)

youll get into chi and unc ea

bummpppppppp

You are definitely in your early schools.

Many colleges don't care about Writing so much.. so I wouldn't worry about that.

I would say your chances at Duke are very good.. HYPS are a little harder, but you could definitely get into at least one of these schools.

Good luck next year!

really, definitely even at UChicago? Could writing an 'average' essay hurt me a lot?

You've got a great shot. But just being an asian male will hold you back. And econ isn't going to offset that.

You're a good applicant. But you're not an exceptional one. Could you get one of HYP? Maybe. But I would not be surprised if all said no.

Look into LACs or Tufts. The schools are just as good, but not quite as competitive.

Hmm, random question, but do I know you, I only ask because I won states in PFD for Florida not this past year, but the year before.

Your courseload, scores, grades, and EC's definitely put you up there for Chicago.. but yes, you are right, the essays are very important for Chicago.
Make sure to pick a topic you feel that you can write a really good essay with or at least just have fun while doing it!

hmm I really really don't want to go to Tufts or LAC's. I guess I'm just stubborn like that, but I've always viewed Tufts as a great pre-med school, but nothing else really. And I know this is a bad reason, but parental pressure will probably not allow me to go to a LAC , even if I get into like Swat or something.

I am also banking on straight rejections from HYP and Stanford. If U Chicago gives me good money, i'm pretty sure i'm going. any more input?

and no i don't live in florida, and i went to nats in policy . so i doubt we know each other lol.

the only thing that would hurt you at chicago is your essays (and maybe your GPA since you said it had slipped); my advice is don't be trite, cliche, ordinary, forgettable in any sense-- show your love of learning and what makes you quirky.
as for getting money from chicago, they only give out a few $10,000 merit scholarships a year and i hear they're pretty competitive (i obviously didn't get one though you may have a shot) and all other money is need-based.

is writing an essay about an EC im passionate about too cliche?

also, the merit scholarships i'm hoping for apply to UNC

You can write on any topic for Chicago, so long as the writing is creative and brilliant. I know an applicant who wrote a terrific essay about nonstick fry pans.

bump 10 charss
