Chances for UT Austin

I'm currently a senior in Texas who has applied for freshman admission to UT Austin College of Natural Sciences.

I'm of native Hawaiian descent. I got a 2150 on my SAT and I'm in the top 12% of my graduating class at a high school in the Houston area. In regards to extracurriculars, I have accumulated over 200 volunteer hours through a program at my local hospital, I am a member of NHS & HOSA, and I was a Junior Class Representative of my school's student council last school year. I'm a former member of the Debate Team and Spanish NHS. Additionally, I'm a military dependent.

Automatic admittance requires being in the top 8% of your class, and 72% of current freshman are in the top 10%, which I'm not in. I'm really scared that I'm not going to be accepted because of my rank, and I really want to be a longhorn. What are my chances of getting in?

I think it is a match. Your high SAT scores will make up for a relatively low GPA.

What’s your backup plan?

My backup plan is A&M, which I’ve already been accepted to. However, Austin has a better pre-med program.
