Chances for Vandy?

I've gotten a lot of mixed messages from my parents and from teachers - I really don't know if I should get excited or expect disappointment. Not knowing how to expect the results is actually the worst feeling.

Anyway, if the ethnicity/income helps (pretty sure Vandy is need-blind but), I'm Hispanic and the fam makes about 25K a year.

My unweighted cum. GPA is 3.48 and my weighted cum. GPA is 4.42.
I'm a senior in the IB program.
I've taken two AP tests:
Euro History: 4
Psychology: 5

SAT: 2070 (Crit. 740, Math: 660, Writing: 670)
ACT: 30 (if it's even possible to take again, I will [I forgot my calculator!!])(Reading: 36, English: 35, Science: 27, Maths: 24, Writing: 8)

I'm a three year member and two year president of my school's environmental club. We reach out and volunteer with the Silver Springs Alliance in Florida.
I'm a co-founder and two year public relations director for my school's FIRST robotics team.
I'm a two year member and one year historian and equipment manager for my school's high school marching band (for which I play marimba, trombone, and all aux. instruments). I also do Jazz band, and Concert band.
Treasurer for my school's art club.
A two year XC and Track team member.
4 year French club member.
1 year member for my school's GSA.
Volunteer for three years at a non profit thrift store (200+ hours)
Public library volunteer and committee president of the Library League club to plan library events. I've racked up about 200+ hours as well.

I'm a Photoshop CS4 Associate (outdated, I know!)
I design t-shirts for my school's clubs.

If it's of any value, I'm a fantastic writer (sorry, tooting my own horn) and have written some pretty good essays for the common app and for the Cornelius scholarship.

Please help? I don't think my nails can take all this biting.

Well, if I were on the adm committee, based on the above you’d be in. Now, perhaps that makes you feel better, but I’m not on the adm committee, and have only the outsider’s view of how they make decisions.

Based on what they say and what I’ve observed, I would say that you have a decent shot at it, especially if your essay is outstanding.

Now some unsolicited advice: Since nothing is certain, don’t get your heart set on Vandy. Make sure you have some other schools on your list that you’d be very happy to attend, even your “safety” schools. Your success in life will depend very marginally on which school you attended.

Definitely, I agree with your advice. I have applied for my dream school (Princeton, which is the longest shot, I know) and UF, FSU, and UCF. I’ve already gotten into UCF and FSU and their honors colleges, so I am going to college no matter what. Thanks for your opinion!

Good luck. I admire your maturity and striving, and wish you all success.

make sure you do an interview to show your dedication to the school

Do I get contacted for a Vandy interview, or must I apply to get one? I got contacted by Princeton for an interview without any prompting from me.

When you submit your Common App you will be asked whether you want an interview and if you say yes they will give you choices of people to interview with and you choose a random name. That is how it worked for my daughter last October when she applied ED1 to Vanderbilt. You do need to pursue with Ad Coms.

they just sent my son an email with a link to see if there is an interviewer in our interviewer. It is up to him to contact them to see if they are available/willing.
