Chances for Wharton/CAS ED

Hello!

So with the ED deadline slowly edging closer, I'm wondering if I could have a few opinions on my chances for Wharton and CAS, as I'm truly torn between the two (having done EC related to both), and though ultimately I'm going to be deciding on which one to apply based on career preferences, it'd still be helpful to know the odds for both.

Below are my stats:

General:

Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Male
Location: Canada
GPA: 87/100 (Top 10%? Maybe-ish)
SAT: 2350/2400
SAT II: 800/800/800 (Chem, Bio, Math Level 2)
AP: Five 5s, Four 4s - All self studied as my high school does not offer AP courses

Extracurricular:

Led a team that raised ~$150k for development and R&D of invention that's currently in offshore manufactoring stage
Qualified for Canadian Chemistry Olympiad

Clubs:

Debating Club
DECA Club (senior executive)
Ambassador's Club
Chemistry Club
Business Society

Essays:
Common App: Really good imo, will also have Ivy League alumni to edit, etc.
Penn Essay: Good

Recommendation Letters:
Teachers: Both very good
Supplementary: Extraordinary
Guidance: Decent, not expecting anything special, as I don't know her very well

As I'm sure you'll notice, my GPA is depressingly low. And as such, I'm really wondering, would applying for Wharton be a lost cause? How about CAS?

Thank you in advance for the replies!

With your achievements in DECA and strong interest in Business, applying to Wharton would be the best match for you. Since you’re an intl with a high SAT, I think you should be fine.

You’re pretty much all set. Your grades are definitely your major weakness, but so long as you show a distinct upward trend it should be a non-issue. You could pretty much go either way in terms of applying to CAS or Wharton as your interests seem to be kind of spread out across business, science, and debate. Have you considered applying to the Life Sciences and Management program? It’s a dual-degree program between CAS and Wharton. I think it would be right up your alley.

apply to wharton

Thank you all for the replies!

Kbolisetty, unfortunately, my grades right now doesn’t show a clear upwards trend. They went up during Gr. 10, but then went back down in Gr. 11 (mainly because of one low score in Physics).

Would this be a big setback when applying to Wharton or LSM? I’m definitely hoping that my ECs could balance out the GPA, but I’ve also read many threads stating that both Wharton and LSM play the “numbers game” heavily during admissions, which is why I’m concerned.

Also, even though Gr. 12 marks don’t get sent during ED, does anyone know if UPenn accepts projected marks? I’m expecting a 95+ for my Gr. 12 courses right now, and I’m wondering if there’s a way during ED to reflect that.

If others can also provide more opinions on my chances for Wharton/CAS/LSM, that would be great!

Wharton/LSM

I’d say Wharton only or maybe even CAS only would give you the best chances here. You have great scores and some good awards, but I don’t see enough in terms of leadership and GPA.

did you get in?
