Chances for Yale and UVA EA

Currently a high school senior in Virginia. Competitive high school; best school within 50 miles definitely. About 10 to 15 get into USnews top 10s every year. Graduating class size probably around 260.

Looking to see my chances at UVA (applying early action), Yale (also EA), Vanderbilt, University of Chicago, and VT (Engineering specifically).

Stats:

SAT: 2350 R 800 M 770 W 780 (taken at the end of sophomore year and just now in october)

SAT II: US Hist 780 --- Math lvl II 750

GPA (4 point scale, APs are 5, everything else is 4): 4.15 weighted, 3.96 unweighted

Class rank: definitely top 10%, probably around 15th in class

AP Scores: All 5s on AP Euro, AP USH, AP Lang+Comp, AP Calc AB

Will have taken 8 AP courses and one DE by graduation

High school summary:

Currently taking: AP Chemistry, Physics, AP Calc BC, AP Government (US), AP French Language and Culture, DE Survey of English Literature, Madrigals (renaissance choir; most advanced choir at my school)

Prior classes: honors sciences (3 years), honors history (1 year), AP history (2 years), French (4 years), honors math (4 years), AP math (1 year), Photo/Cinema (2 years), honors english (2 years), AP english (1 year), various easy BS easy mandated classes

Extensive involvement in theater sophomore year onward. Lead role in every production since that point, currently vice president of International Thespian Societ. 1st place play at VHSL one act competition, and an individual acting award.

9 years of guitar and vocals, including several years of leading a pretty successful regional rock band (over 60 shows at festivals and clubs throughout VA and NC). Also was selected for All District choir and was ranked high enough that All State is very likely.

Operate a small recording studio and live sound firm

Lots of volunteer work through benefit concerts and through National Honor Society

French National Honor Society

American Legion Boys State of VA

Essays are likely stellar; I've had them critiqued by my last two English teachers and two English professors; all said they were excellent and very distinctive.

Quadruple legacy at VT, no legacy anywhere else.

Thanks!

Quadruple legacy? Does that mean that you have four parents? Just kidding :D

You are a competitive applicant, more so at UVA than Yale due to legacies. Stellar grades and above average ECs. Good luck.

Two parents, a grand parent, and a great-grandparent (and a sibling currently a freshman at tech, but I don’t know if that counts). I hope that won’t count against me for UVA :> Thank you!

Yale, even when you have all the particulars in order, is just a crapshoot…although you do have an angle via their school of music.
