I am from under represented state but over represented minor.
I just found out, a perfect kid from my school also applied the schools that I applied.
the kid stat is perfect, I mean perfect! and sadly, our backgrounds are so similar. - same school, same ethinity, taking same classes (means all the recommendations coming from the same teacher)
the kid got perfect score in SSAT(800,800,800), of course all "A"s in All highest courses.
Perfect ECs- He does 3 major ECs and all 3 of them, top on our state. (I mean very top)
our ECs are on different category but I am not in the top tier on any ECs I am doing.
The kid is un real !
Do I get any chance against the kid? Will the school admit the kids from same school in under represented state who has similar background?
I am super nervous about the fact.
Does anyone have any insight?
I know there is nothing I can do at this point, but want to have some hope!
I think it is very dangerous to compare yourself to someone else. First, “perfect” ECS are in the eye of the beholder. You may find you get into the same schools or different schools than your perfect stat classmate. These schools are not interested in students with "perfect " stats. We were told that grades are evaluated in context and testing is also viewed with some skepticism. These schools want ethical, community oriented, motivated and curious students that will participate in the school community via clubs, sports etc.
Don’t compare yourself! I’m not sure what schools you are applying to but schools look for different things. One school may need say a goalie for varsity lacrosse because they have a senior doing that right now. That’s just one example. You each posses different qualities and traits so don’t compare. Schools also look for different kids of kids. Is he even nice? Schools don’t just admit based on scores and EC’s. What schools are you applying to?
Thank you all. That comforts me a little. We both applied popular schools in here. Hades + some others
I know the schools looking for well rounded kids and i think i have a fair chance, but when you see un real kid do exist, you just discouraged. I know many 99% failed, how about perfect score? Are they ever get failed? Does the perfect kid -at least in my view- have any chance not to be accepted?
Stay positive for you and the other applicant! Whatever happens is going to happen for a good reason, whether they get accepted or not and vice versa for you. You’ll be fine.
I agree with you all! and there is nothing I can do more! Just hoping some schools like me and take us as each individuals not with as the kids from the same category - I don’t like the concept of category.
and also, there is no such a thing like a “Perfect Kid” we are human with some defects. thank you for advice!
Also: You can each apply to 5-10 schools, but “perfect kid” can only attend one of them and AOs can be pretty good at telling whether or not they are an applicant’s first choice
