so far you look good, but make sure you apply early (like in september) and do your best this year to avoid getting Bs. Junior year is the most important. And michigan's method of calculating your gpa does not count your freshman year, which may help your gpa some. For more info on that just search around on this forum.

and btw 217 psat is below the usual new jersey cutoff (220 something) so you may get commended, but semifinalist is unlikely

Your test scores look promising (217 PSAT), and luckily, Michigan will not look at your freshman grades. Keep your GPA up and I think you have a decent shot.

Try to bring that GPA up a little bit. My friend applied early, had a 3.6, a 32, and just got deferred. I applied early, had a 31 and 3.8 and got admitted. Of course I'm sure there were other factors, but that's what just went down a couple of weeks ago. I probably had better essays and recommendations than he did. However, he has been on varsity basketball for three years and was class president, so you never really know how it's going to work out. It also depends on how hard your course load is. How many APs you plan on taking by the time you apply will be a factor.

i think it really depends on what your SAT and ACT scores are going to be. Your ECs are really strong and your gps doesn't make it unfeasible to get in. Aim for a 2000+ on SAT and 700+ on SAT IIs and you'll be good.
