Just my opinion… but if you are really serious about studying communications, I would recommend Quinnipiac and Syracuse. I went to Quinnipiac and the communications school is very popular, has good academics, and a very good internship program. I know of a few people who interned at big-time operations. Plus, the facilities in the communications school are top-notch. A really nice facility.

I also considered Syracuse when I was looking at colleges. Have you visited? If not, you should. The Quinnipiac and Syracuse campuses are drastically different. Syracuse is huge, not in a great area, pretty isolated, and has very rough winters. Also, I’ve heard Newhouse is very competitive. You should speak to a Newhouse alum about that and how easy it is to get involved, get the courses you want, etc.

Quinnipiac has a beautiful campus, in a nice suburban setting, with easy access to New York City and Boston – two huge hubs for big internships and jobs. Better location, in my opinion. Newhouse may have the bigger name in communications, but both schools produce successful graduates in the field.

I know you shouldn’t decide a school based solely on the campus, but after all, you’ll be spending four years there, so you should feel comfortable. Visit both campuses, see which one feels better, and do your homework on the programs you’re interested in. You will figure it all out. Good luck to you!

thank you for the detailed info! yeah i visited syracuse and didn’t like the campus very much. i haven’t seen quinnipiac but i’ve pretty much ruled it out (though i was accepted). i think i’m applying EDII to richmond, and there i would major in either journalism or rhetoric (or both) and minor (or major if i don’t double major in the other two) in marketing. thanks again for all the info!:)
