Chances - IMD and EALC

<p>Hello! I'm a high school senior who just applied to USC for its December 1st deadline. I'm looking to double major in Interactive Media and East Asian Language and Cultures (Japanese). If anyone is willing to give some insight into my chances of getting in to either program (particularly the first), or the school in general, that would be great, thanks!</p>

2nd/minor: EALC - Japanese (Dornsife)</p>

<p>GPA: 3.74 UW, 4.06 W
SAT: 2220 (730 Math, 720 CR, 770 Writing)
SAT II: 670 Japanese Language & Literature
AP: French (5), taking Calculus AB in the spring</p>

<p>Awards:
Freshman - High Honor Roll
Sophomore - Honor Roll
Junior - National Honor Society, school awards in French & Math
Senior - current National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist</p>

<p>EC's:
Science Fiction Club (9-12)
Art Club (9-10)
French Club - president & founder (11-12)
Japan Exchange - hosted students/gone abroad twice, translate and lead visitors on both sides since there is limited language support (I am one of two students who supplement the small group of adult leaders and the only non-native speaker), was a designated student leader this past year (9-12)
French Exchange - hosted teacher (11)
AIB Pre-College (11)
Japanese Language Summer Camp (9-12)
Internship at local stationary design business (11-12)
Volunteer work at farm and one of town's Kindergarten classrooms (9-10)
TA in French 1 class (12)</p>

<p>Background: female, mixed (asian & white), live with single parent, competitive MA public school</p>

<p>Other:
- great recs (did extremely well in both classes, both are exchange trip coordinators for France/Japan and know me very well)
- good essays about my interest in both art/computers and languages
- attended bilingual (French) school grades K-6
- school does NOT offer Japanese, I am self-taught with support from summer camp and exchange trips
- can PM someone my art portfolio if they would like to look (taken 3 years of AP art at school)
- currently taking Java programming & web design. 3D graphics next semester.</p>

<p>Your app is very impressive! I applied to USC before the merit scholarship deadline as well! Your app makes mine feel like a ant. lol I think you have a very decent shot at acceptance! For me, I have to do a lot if hope and praying! :slight_smile: Good luck!</p>

<p>Your grades are great and so are your tests scores (mine are lower and I got accepted.) </p>

<p>You seem to have done alot with Japanese but I don’t see too many ECs relating to cinematic arts.</p>

<p>@Curious: Thank you!! There are so many strong applicants on CC that I’m pretty critical of my app too – I’m sure you’re fine! USC is a very tough school, so let’s both do a lot of praying for those acceptances :)</p>

<p>@Walnorte: That’s great to hear, thanks for looking! The cinematic arts bit is what I worry about. Aside from my portfolio/essays, I’m hoping that the Art Institute of Boston pre-college (Digital Painting & Illustration Portfolio prep) as well as my internship show that I’m invested in the arts. I’ve been told that SCA takes a variety of applicants, but is it really alright that I haven’t made any games yet?</p>
