Chances into University of Southern California

Hi! I just started my junior year of high school so I have not taken my ACT/SAT tests yet. I am mostly a straight a student (have gotten only 2 Bs in the last 2 years). I take honors and AP courses also. Here is what I’m involved in:

-NHS
-I write for my school newspaper.
-I am a leader of my advisory (advisory is basically a homeroom)
-I am a leader of a social justice group (CSTAT- Catholic Social Teaching Action Team).
-I play lacrosse (started my sophomore year).
-I am on Mock Trial (was a witness freshman year and a lawyer last year).
-I am a school Ambassador.
-I went on a mission trip to Nicaragua last summer (Summer of 2016).

Does all this look good? Will it make up for my test scores if they’re not as high as I would like? Also, what do you think would get me into USC Dornsife ACT/SAT wise?

Thanks!

You’re on the right track, just get a 34/1530+ on your test(s) and you’d be solid
Also, take some subject tests too

@DurejaVu Are subject tests required for USC?

No, but they always look good on an application!

Good Luck…

My daughter was admitted to USC Engineering and just started her freshman year. Her ACT wasn’t great - 28 - but her diverse activities, leadership, GPA (3.93) and APs (11) made up for it. USC looks for well-rounded applicants and denies a lot of straight-A students with better grades and test scores than my daughter had. Do something spectacular your Junior year - challenge yourself. In my daughter’s case she completed a major award and served in a high leadership position at school, in addition to everything else she had going on (outside activities and work). She also did a college summer program before starting her senior year. You really have to go above and beyond to get into USC. I also strongly recommend visiting USC, learning everything there is to know about them and the department you want to study in, and doing an interview in person, either in your town or on campus. Also write spectacular essays - get help with this and complete your common app next summer so that you can focus on the USC essay questions once they come out. Good luck!

@liltinydancer Very sound advice…
