Chances of admission into Engineering Programs??

I am currently a junior going to be a senior this fall and i am very interested in applying to engineering programs, specifically biomedical engineering. Unfortunately in my sophomore year, I took AP Chem and ended up with a C at the end of the class. That’s the only class that I have a C in high school and I wanted to know how much this would affect my admissions into schools like Purdue, BU etc, assuming that my other stats (GPA, SAT, EC) are good

Unfortunately, this may be a problem. However, if you have really good academics then you should be fine. For example, if you got a 5 on the AP test for chem or if you took AP bio and got an A and a 4 or 5, then you’re probably fine. Unfortunately, top tier schools (Ivies) are probably out of your reach, but if your other stats are really good then you won’t have too much of a problem. On top of that, I recommend taking the subject test for chemistry, to show colleges that you have a sincere interest in the subject.

As a rule, a single “C” will only matter at very selective schools, at most, especially public Universities, your overall GPA and test scores are much more important (as well as EC’s at schools that use holistic admissions). If you have specific school you’re concerned with, I would recommend posting your question in that school’s forum here on CC. Many of the post in a school’s forum, are around admissions.

Good Luck!

Taking AP Chem your sophomore year was impressive… I bet that “C” will be fine.

Check some of the other threads about biomedical engineering. It sounds like it can be a challenge to get a job without grad degree. If it’s your passion, try to find a school with good placement results.
