What ACT score ranges would be considered "low," "high," or "not a chance" when it comes to getting into Hillsdale? I know that their average is 28, but I was wondering how hard it is for students who have lower scores to get in. Would a slightly below average ACT score pretty much kill a student's changes of being accepted if that student had excellent grades? Thanks for any answers!

I’m a freshman at Hillsdale, and while I personally had solid SAT scores, I have definitely heard from my classmates many on the lower end of the SAT/ACT score spectrum. The school truly judges holistically, and one thing will not make or break you. Good grades can certainly make up for your scores, as can school involvement, leadership, sports, extracurriculars, etc etc etc. The interview is EXTREMELY important. That’s your time to shine! Good luck :)

well seeing as how its the average score, being slightly below it didnt kill half of the students chances. the people with below average scores prob had excellent grades otherwise, especially those who are slightly below.

I think the interview is the make or break issue at Hillsdale. My D had a 3.9 and a 29 on her ACT did not get in to Hillsdale but did get in to U of Mich.

My son never took the SAT or the ACT, but was admitted and did very well. A homeschooler, he had a 4.0 at the local ComCol and other demonstrated abilities. Don’t suppose it would happen there now though. While Hillsdale is not as test driven as other colleges, I believe the tests are now definitely required.

I don’t know that Hillsdale is admitting too many students, Cross0328, with “below average” test scores.

Well Fencersmother, what do you mean by “below average”? I have a 28 ACT and 3.6 GPA so would I be considered “below average”?
