Chances of getting accepted into transfer schools?

Hello, I am currently a college freshman and I am thinking about transferring to another college. I go to a school named Cedar Crest College right now but I don't like this school anymore and several conflicts have occurred which made me want to transfer.

Right now, I have 12.5 credits but I am taking 17.5 credits next semester for the spring and that would leave me with 30 credits after the end of the first year. Right now I have a 2.83 gpa because I had a C in one class, B's in two, a b+ in one and an A in another. I originally had 15.5 credits during Fall semester but I withdrew from a class because it was a class that upper class men were in and it was quite difficult.

I am staying at my current college until the end of the spring semester and I know that I will be able to get my gpa up to get a 3.3 by the end of spring semester.

I was thinking of transferring to Stony Brook University, Spelman College, Villanova University or Loyola University Maryland. Is a 3.3 gpa high enough to get into any of these schools?

At the college I currently attend, I am a senator for my class, and I am in five clubs. I also have a good amount of community service for the fall semester and I plan to get more community service hours for the spring.

My major is currently Political Science but for the spring semester, I plan to change to BioChemistry or I'll stay undecided until I'm ready to make up my mind.

For Stony Brook and the other colleges, do you need your SAT scores even though you'll have the required amount of credits to apply to that school? Also, do you need to have 30 credits completed already when applying or can you tell the school that you'll have 30 by the end of the semester?

I'm planning on taking summer classes to boost my GPA even more and to get more credits.

I don’t think taking 17.5 credits is a good idea if you got a 2.83 GPA in 12.5 credits. Is there something that caused the low GPA? Maybe just a hard transition into college? If that’s the case and you feel like you can do much better, then maybe proceed with 17.5 credits. But, if you couldn’t really handle the work, I would reconsider taking 17.5 credits.
Check Stony Brook, Spelman, Villanova, or Loyola transfer admission profiles and try to aim higher.
In all, most schools want to see a transfer GPA of about 3.0. Obviously, the higher the GPA, the better chances for admission.
I would check with certain applications on whether or not they require SAT scores.
Just did a quick check, Stony Brook wants at least 24 credits upon transferring so don’t overwhelm yourself with courses.
Lastly, for most schools, they want 30 credits (or however many required credits) by the time you are applying so they can actually see your transcripts with grades and not ‘in progress’.

I was having a hard time in my PoliSci class because my teacher didn’t help me when I asked for it and I didn’t do well on the tests and I studied hard for them but my professor put different things on the test from what he told me to study. I wanted to take 17.5 because I dropped a class last semester which left me with 12.5 credits. I originally had 15.5 before dropping the class.

Well, I hope you gave that teacher a bad evaluation then. But, if you want to increase your chances at transferring, definitely change your major. Not doing well in a PoliSci class when it’s your major looks odd. Change your major at your current college first, because oftentimes it shows your major on the transcript so it will still say PoliSci.
Right now, you are looking at transferring as a second semester sophomore or junior based on your credits, since in progress credit does not count but rather gives admissions an idea of your class rigor.

Most of my problem classes were due to the fact that the professors were adjuncts and they did not offer assistance when needed and they also said that they offered help but they lied.

In addition to those things, I got sick several times and the reason why I was getting sick is because of the dorm room I was placed in, it is worsening my medical issues and I have a doctor’s note to receive a medical single room and my school did not give me the room. They said I don’t need it but I really do. The room was making me even more sick so I would have to skip class, I was getting less than 8 hours of sleep because of the room and I could not breathe in there. So that was why my grades suffered the way they did.

Ok so I’ll definitely change my major, I was just thinking of biochemistry for now because I could see myself being a doctor and those majors get help the most when needed.

I wish I could’ve transferred from before because I can’t stand this school anymore. I feel like I’ll do terrible if I stay there any longer but I know I could handle staying there for the Spring semester. The school just made me dislike it even more right now. They put me on financial hold for no reason. I don’t owe them anything. :(

Yeah, from the looks of it, you’ll have to spend another 2 semesters at this college until you can apply for spring 2016 so that you have completed 30+ credit hours.
Also, I hope you’re changing dorms next semester. Also, check ratemyprofessors.com or ■■■■■■■.com for teacher reviews because it sounds like you got some pretty crummy teachers this semester.

My school won’t let me change my room and I need the medical single desperately. So I can’t change it at all.

So are 30 credit hours, 30 credits total? Because I’ll have 30 credits total by the end of the spring semester.

Yeah, 30 credit hours is synonymous with 30 credits. Since you’ll have 30 credits by the end of next semester and most schools require you to have 30 by the time you apply, you’ll have to spend next fall at your current college and transfer the following spring.

Oh ok. I was just curious because on Common Application, most of the deadlines are in June or July. But Common App might be wrong. I think my spring semester term ends in May. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Agnes Scott College. Is there a chance that I could get in there too?

I would definitely check with each individual college’s deadlines. I know a lot of colleges who have fall transfer deadlines in April or May but yeah, I think if they use the common app then it is around June. Just did a quick check of Agnes Scott, they recommend at least a 3.0 college GPA for applying but, you can still try if you want. So if you can get it up in spring, you can try for Agnes Scott. But for colleges that have earlier deadlines, I would wait until spring 2016.

If I waited until Spring 2016, wouldn’t that mean that I would’ve passed the maximum credit transfer limit of 60 credits but I would’ve had the minimum of 30?

If you waited until spring, that would put you at 45 credits (assuming you take 15 credits during fall 2015). You would still be a sophomore and considered a second semester sophomore transfer. You wouldn’t pass 60 credits unless you took 30 credits in one semester.

Lmao this post was from two years ago and you all were wont.

Lmao this post is so funny because I got into the school that I wanted to go to with only 27 credits going through. But instead of Spelman I go to Howard which I think is a better school.
