Next year I will be applying to MBA programs. I will be a 25 year old male with ambitions of receiving the best education possible. My profile includes: two years of a Leadership Development Program in a fortune top 50 company, a 3.5 undergraduate GPA, and a slightly above 700 score on the GMAT. Many of the ivy’s and similar programs do not offer part time MBA’s but instead offer a EMBA’s. My question is how likely with my age and profile am I to be under consideration for one of these EMBA programs? Employer will pay for first 100k.
Most require 5-10 yrs experience. The youngest person we had in my program was 30. Typical age was 35-38. At least 1/3rd of the class also held JD, MD, or PhD’s . The environment is very different from a typical college class- there is a huge amount of discussion, group and team work, and you will be called on to use real examples from your work experience in discussion and homework. Professors were all senior faculty. I would not recommend an EMBA for someone with two years of work experience. There are weekend programs which might work for you. Most EMBA programs would reject you.
The whole concept of an Executive MBA is that you have a fairly high profile job when you enter. Many students keep their job through the program and call on that experience in class. Honestly, you don’t sound like the right candidate for one of those (yet).
There are lots of other options that are probably available to you. Cal Poly SLO has a compressed (1 yr) program that has a very solid reputation. Your grades/scores might get you into SDSU as well as most of the other CSUs. UCR could also be an option.
UChicago and Northwestern offer traditional part time evening MBA programs.
