Im a senior in high school and my gpa is really low like 2.3.
My SAT scores is 990/1600 and 1530/2400… SAT critical reading: 420 Math:570 Writing: 540
My ACT Composite:22 English:19 Mathematics:22 Reading:25 Science:23 Writing:8
I only volunteered at the library and babysat my niece for my family.
I got three recommendation letters.
In the essay, I wrote about I came to New York from Hong Kong and by the time I came, my english skills weren’t good at all but I have improved by working hard and never give up.
My English is not fluent and Im in ESL which is English as Second Language… and I hope they will understand why my scores and gpa are so low.
I have applied for Accounting to these colleges in December
University at Buffalo
-Brockport
-Albany
-New Paltz
-Oneonta
-Old Westbury
-Plattsburgh
-Purchase
I would like to know what are my chances of getting into these colleges.
Brockport, Plattsburgh, and Old Westbury are very likely to admit you. Oneonta and New Paltz are possible reaches due to your being ESL ( did you take the TOEFL to provide context? if not, you should, and send the results to 4 “reach” schools such as Oneonta and New Paltz).
I certainly think you’ve got a good shot at Brockport. If you have a chance, go up to visit it and meet with the admissions staff there. Demonstrating some interest will only help you!
@MidwestDad3 to be honest, I have a very good impression of Brockport because I made a mistake on the application and the Brockport addmission understand mistakes can happen & will definitely not hold that small oversight against me while reviewing my application. But Albany is my first choice…
If your parents have a good income, that’s a “hook” for the smaller colleges that are need-aware.
Check out Wells, Siena, Arcadia, Elmira, Gannon, Elizabethtown, Rider, Widener, Wagner, Hartwick.
This way, you’ll ensure you have some acceptances. If you have 4 or 5 colleges interested in you, ey, embarassment of riches, what better way to finish senior year? Way better than eing so nervous about one admission to a SUNY. Hedge your bets… apply to some SUNYs and to some need-aware colleges!
