OKAY SO this is the first time I created one of these but I just really wanna know my chances real time.
Age: 13
Ethnicity: Full asian
Current GPA:3.8-3.9
SSAT percentile: 30% (its an extremely low score :() 1911
Grade: 8
I’m applying for financial aid too
I play volleyball, track&field, and basketball and my local community center
I do community service three days a week and volunteer at science centers in the summer
I hike a lot and spend my time at the library and have a huge passion for the medical fields and biology.
I had an interview with Exeter, andover, choate, and episcopal.
Exeter: It was my first interview and I was really nervous and blanked out a couple of times but it was an okay one
Andover: the interviewer was so nice to me and she WASNT an AO but was an alumni and really bonded and connected
Choate: this was my favorite one because the AO and I had such a fun time because I related a lot of things with her and was overall fun and resourceful
Episcopal: this one was my second favorite because this was the only one I went on campus and I completely fell in love with it and I was so driven by everything there and the AO was so funny and I goofed around a bit but we bonded sooo much well
(I think I’m an affable person)
I finished all my applications and I’m waiting for March 10th, I feel like the only CHANCE I have of getting into one is Episcopal because of the highest acceptance rate and I really do have a huge passion to have a boarding school experience at one of these schools because they’re my favorite.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and please leave some responses
Also the reason why my ssat’s were so low is because I didn’t study for them because I simply was very driven by the idea of it being a standardizing test so I wanted to test my intelligence without any preps or studying.
I don’t think NOT prepping for the SSAT was a good idea because those schools are some of the most selective. an an SSAT score of 30% really brings down your chances of getting in. However, everyone has a chance and if you connected with your interviewer, that’s a good sign
Okay so it’s important to know that unless you’re some sort of Olympian or Grammy winner, the ssat scores required for Andover and Exeter range from 89-94th percentile
Like @kxmkxm said, everyone has a chance, though his scores may seem to be extremely low. Yes, it may be significantly easier to gain admission into a school if a person’s SSAT scores are within the ballpark of the previous admits, but like many know, admissions into any one of these schools is not guaranteed and can widely vary based on an applicant’s personal stats, their essays, and interviews.
So, in my opinion, your SSAT score seems to be too low for Andover, Choate, Exeter, and Hotchkiss, but you do seem to have a higher chance of admission at Episcopal as they have both a higher acceptance rate and a lower average SSAT score than the other four schools that you mentioned.
The top 4 schools practically have a cutoff at about 50-60 so I wouldn’t expect any chance of getting into those schools but episcopal is still a very long reach.
With an SSAT score of 30 & in need of financial aid, I think that your chances are not good.
Not studying or prepping for the SSAT is fine if you score above any of your targeted schools average or median SSAT score. I have a family member who did no prep whatsoever–didn’t even know what areas were tested–but earned a score in the nineties. So your low score is not due to just lack of preparation.
I just finished taking the SSAT yesterday and I’m a bit nervous Im going to get a low SSAT percentile and now that I see you got 30% I lost a bit of confidence.
I did not get into Exeter, Andover, Hotchkiss, or Choate but I did get waitlisted for Episcopal, and i’m pleasant with it since my SSAT’s were very low. Now i’m Just waiting if there’s an opening spot for me now. Wish me luck everyone!
Hello @wootkur The SSAT “cutoff” is not 85% for the top 4. They don’t have a cutoff. I know of kids at PA and PEA with SSATs in the 70s. About 25% of SPS students score below 80% on the SSAT.
