Chances of getting into Harvard for a Yale SCEA admit?

Would you like to provide some substantiated facts for your argument? Because I have plenty. Would you like to see them?

(that was directed at onecircuit)

I’ve read frequently (on this board and on other places) and do agree with onecircuit’s assertion that it is much harder to get into Yale EA than through regular.

From Yale’s website:
"Historically, the rate of admission among early applicants has been higher than the overall admission rate because many of our strongest candidates, from a wide range of backgrounds and interests, apply early. "

So even though we can compare the admission rates of early (perhaps 14%) to the admission rates of regular (5%), it is actually equally hard, if not harder to get in during the early process because there are so many stronger applicants.

^lol, you got the two posters mixed up. onecircuit is asserting that it is NOT harder to get into Yale EA than through RD.

westsideya, yes, please - post your facts

thanks

I posted some evidence/stats above (@onecircuit), sorry about confusing the usernames:

Stats from CC results threads for Yale EA vs. RD as well as Yale’s website show that it is much harder to get into Yale EA than through regular.

From Yale’s website:

It is harder; read my above post:

“The simple fact that people deferred from EA get accepted RD tells us the the level required to be accepted EA is higher than that of RD.”

What more evidence do you want?

@onecircuit

In addition to what kjiggy and Idiosyncra3y said, Yale has also said that they only accept applicants early if they are sure they would have accepted them in the regular round. Also, students whose top choices were Harvard and Princeton (and not Yale) apply to Yale early because they want to apply to a school of equal caliber, and therefore brings the competition rate even higher. (This will be different next year since H and P are reinstating their early action policies)

OP: If I may address your first question: Do you ever get annoyed at the reams of “what are my chances to __?” posts?

Well yours is similar – in that who can really comment besides the obvious? If you’re strong enough to be a Yale SCEA admit, and knowing that H admits along similar lines – you have a better chance than average. Is that precise enough for you? Well tough. *No one can give you a better answer than I have.

C’mon. Relax. Stay off of CC. If H admits you, then great. You have quite the dilemma. If not, plz don’t waste your own time waiting by this thread for people to “chance” you.

To answer your first question, no I have never gotten annoyed at the what are my chances posts, because first and foremost this is a forum for advice and questions about college admissions. And seeing your massive post count, I am sure you are aware of this fact. However people choose to use this forum is not up to me, and how I choose to use this forum is certainly not up to you.

I was looking for speculation and opinions, and possibly an old thread or paper with statistics. Seeing as nobody has offered the latter to me as of now, speculation will have to do, and THAT is “precisely” what I was looking for when I started the thread.
