Ok so I am a senior in high school currently applying to Harvard. Harvard is my number one choice and I am a little scared about my chances of getting in. My high school does not offer any AP classes but I’ve take virtually every college class offered. I have a 32 act composite and a 33 superscore BUT The first time I took it I got a 27 and I had it attomatically sent to Harvard so they have that score :/. I have a 4.2 gpa on a 4.0 scale and have gotten all A’s (no A-). I also have not sat subject tests. I’m very low income (if that means anything). I feel ok about my essays and I have some good extracurriculars like internships and leadership and founding clubs but I just feel bad about my academics. Please give your brutal advice! Thanks!!
While many colleges superscore the SAT, those same colleges do not superscore the ACT. (Google “colleges that superscore the ACT 2019” and click on the first entry, which is a blog that CC will not allow me to post. Harvard is not on the list.) So, Admissions will use your 32 ACT, which is at Harvard’s 25th percentile, and note you took it twice to achieve that score.
Last year Harvard rejected 97.57% of applicants in the RD round. Admissions is looking for wonderful students of good character – students who will have a positive impact on the college and will, in Admissions opinion, have a positive impact on the world in the years to come. It’s impossible to tell from your post if you are one of those students. As such, you should be focusing your energy and thoughts on other colleges that offer better chances to applicants with your test score. I agree with @gibby. You have your application in at Harvard. Your chances are very low.
Now it is time to focus on other schools where you have a realistic chance of getting accepted. Just forget about Harvard. If it comes through then great, but you need to have other plans.
Thanks! Harvard is my dream but I know I will most likely not get in. I am very excited about another option which I have a very good chance of getting in and I would be with my sister. Thanks for the honesty.
