Chances of getting into NCSU Eng. school ( IS)

WGPA- 4.2
UWGPA-3.9
Rank 3/120
ACT- 29 (Plan on taking it twice more)
SAT- 1220 but I don’t plan on submitting this score
AP- Bio (3 on the exam)
Dual Enrollment - English 111,112, PSY 150, Public speaking, Precalculas, American history 1&2, Intro to computers, Elementary Spanish 1&2,

EC- FFA Secretary and then President, 4 years of football, Beta Club, AIG, Full time summer job doing construction. I also help my dad run a commercial fishing business.
CS- After hurricane Mathew, my area including my own house were flooded. I spent 100 hours helping on the repair of houses in my area. Other community service activities include activities within the FFA and Beta club.

I come from a very rural high school with a total attendance of around 500. My school offers 0 AP classes so the only one I was able to complete was AP Bio online through NCVPS. I understand that colleges normally don’t hold that against you during application review. I loaded my senior year with 6 of the above dual enrollment courses through a local community college. If anybody could respond I would be very thankful.

If you can raise your ACT to 31+ then I would say that NCSU is a safety school honestly.

You are doing the right thing. While it may be frustrating that you don’t have access to the AP classes, NCSU does point out that they will review your courses with respect to your high school - essentially looking to see if you are taking the challenging classes that are available.

For scores - https://www.engr.ncsu.edu/admissions/freshman-admissions/ is a good place to compare yourself to the other freshman.

Definitely go to the engineering open house and talk to someone, if you have not already.

@ToxicityXD I have taken the ACT twice so far, made a 28 on the first one and a 29 on the second one ( still superscores to a 29). I honestly didn’t really study for either one so I think if I study before hand a 31 is manageable.

Overall NC state is probally the number one school on my list. I may apply to other out of state engineering schools that seem reasonable with my stats as well though.

@DecideSomeHow That’s good to hear that NC State does take an overall look at your available classes. Throughout my high school career I have always been worried as I have family at bigger schools who take a schedule full of AP classes as a freshman. I hoped to make up for this by taking as many dual enrollment courses I could take while also getting my necessary credits.

What we have been told is that NC State does take into account what your high school offers and they want to see that you took the difficult route. I disagree with @ToxicityXD about scoring a 31 and NC State would be a safety school. The engineering program is very competitive. The middle 50% ACT score is 30-33 and SAT is 1340-1450 (https://www.engr.ncsu.edu/admissions/freshman-admissions/). Helping you will be your location as NC State tries to take kids from all counties in NC and being in a rural county may increase your chances (Matthew flooded our house too). I would certainly try and improve your scores to improve your chances, especially on the math side. When my oldest went to NC State (ChemE) his 750 math was the fifth highest score in his suite of 10 students.

Best of luck!

Second that - 31 does not make it a safety
