My daughter is a Senior this year and will be applying to UIUC College of Business. She has a 30 ACT score; 3.75 unweighted GPA; 4.12 weighted GPA. What are her chances?
My oldest daughter made it in four years ago with a 27 ACT score. I don’t remember her GPA but know it wasn’t as high as my youngest daughter. She applied to the College of Business but was wait listed for DSG. She did make it in and eventually transferred to the College of Business. She just graduated in May and was offered a job prior to her Senior year. Love this school!
What are her ECs? If she has a lot of service and at least one leadership role it would help. However, she may need to do what your older daughter did and transfer in after freshman year. Fortunately her older sister can help guide her as she was successful in CofB.
Good luck! And congrats to your older daughter too!
For 2015 admitted freshman school of business the middle 50% composite was 28-32. In-state, leadership ECs, high course rigor - all will help. Love the school too, except for the growing crime rate.
Grades and test scores are in the range of those admitted. However, business is one college for which the full file review means something. Essays and EC’s are important, the school’s admission rate is around 40%, and it has been known to reject some with very high grades and test socres while accepting others in the bottom of the range because they showed leadership skills with the other material submitted.
My daughter is a freshman this year in the college of business. She had a similar GPA, 32 ACT score, strong ec’s and community service. Agree with drusba; we consistently heard that essays and extracurriculars are very important in the decision process. Another thing that I believe really helped was that she showed a strong interest in the school from the very beginning of the application process. At her initial visit to the university, we made sure to visit the school of business after the general tour and met with one of the deans from the department. After that meeting her heart was set on U of I and she attended every event that she was invited to from the college of business. She also spent a day shadowing a student in late fall. I believe your daughter has a good chance at getting in as long as she submits strong essays. Best of luck to her- my daughter is loving her experience so far!
Thanks everyone for your comments. My daughter is in state. Like my oldest daughter, she was in Marching Band for two year. She’s in a few clubs and takes AP classes. She has not taken any “fun” classes her Senior year where most of her friends have. Since she wants to go into Business like her sister, she applied to Loyola and DePaul and was accepted to both. She’s just waiting to hear back this Friday.
Unfortunately, we did not attend any of the school invites because we know the school inside and out from when my oldest daughter was there. We went to every Dad’s and Mom’s weekend. I love this school - especially the Business program - they really teach the kids to get out of their comfort zone and excel to be the best. My oldest studied abroad in Singapore in her Junior year. She chose Singapore because all her friends were studying abroad in Europe and she said that she wanted to go outside her comfort zone. If she went to Europe like her friends, she would not be meeting new friends like she did in Singapore. She did great. Met new people from Canada, Sweden, Germany and Italy. Still meeting up with them after college.
Thanks again everyone. Keeping our fingers crossed for this Friday.
Thanks for this thread I have similar stats, a slightly lower GPA with a slightly higher ACT, in state, good EC’s, etc… Illinois is my first choice. Hope I get in!
