This seems to be one of several 7th grade posts about applying next year; maybe a new thread title is needed?

1) You have to take SSAT in the year you apply (next fall in 8th grade), prior scores are wiped clean. In 7th grade I think the version of the SSAT is even different.

2) Good grades, and an interest in a passion is helpful. See book “what high schools don’t tell you” on Amazon

3) Use summer between 7 and 8th grade wisely (maybe summer program at one of the schools?)

4) Try to visit the schools - just walk around and get a feel for them.

5) Broaden your net to include more than just HADES. Particularly for fencing, consider Lawrenceville. If you don’t have a good local choice, applying to about 10 schools, with half being “likely” admits, is a good choice. See the “hidden gems” threads.

2prepmom: WHat are my chance?
The schools I would like to apply to are Groton, St.Pauls, Hotchkiss, Tabor, Choate Rosemary Hall, and Deerfield.

I am a sophmore with mostly A’s and some B’s, i am currently taking one AP class.
I do Crew after school, work a job on Saturdays, volunteer at animal shelter on weekends, and I am part of my school’s art club.
I am not applying for financial aid.

I attend a very big public school in Washington, DC. There are not many kids on my grade that do get “great” grades.

I have not taken SSAT yet, but I will take it in two weeks. I worked with a tutor the whole summer to help prepare, mostly in Mathematics.

Cduffy56, I have not been following this thread closely, so it may have diverged off the original topic, but the general practice is to create a new thread if you wish to be chanced.
