Chances of getting into this college?

im a junior in highschool. resident of california.

weighted total gpa: 3.35/3.44 (depending on what i get in bio)
sat:2100
ECs:swimmer, (on the swim team for 2 years, injured for a third year), coach for 3 years(2 years volunteer), community service 100 hours,

4 aps junior year: calc ab, computer science, ap psychology, ap biology

i think im really screwed... my sophmore year consisted of a 2.8 first semester and a 3.3 second semester which averaged out to a 3.05 total for my sophmore year...

im projected to get a 3.67 for my junior year so my total highschool gpa(sophmore and junior) would be about a 3.35...
IF however, i can pull off an A in bio, would have a 3.83 for my junior year... which would make my TOTAL GPA a 3.44.

i have some problems at home and adhd which i will mention in my essay...

please tell me my chances of getting into all the ucs.. except for riverside and merced.

im taking my sat subject tests soon.

my weighted GPA is not my UC gpa. keep that in mind

What would be your UC GPA?
I got in with a 3.7 weighted UC/3.3 weighted HS
2140 SAT/780 Math/700 Bio/M

It’s really hard to say though. I think your chances of getting are anywhere from 40% to 60%. When you have a lower gpa it becomes a long shot to get in…as opposed to have a 4.0 which pretty much solidifies your chances of getting in. I’m saying based on people I know from my school who were accepted and rejected as well as others I have viewed on this forum.

so basically me and you are about the same? since your weighted highschool gpa is 3.3… however i took 4 ap’s throughout my junior year, and none during sophmore year.

what’s your class rank?
being top 10% of your class is a huge plus.

We’re not the same, because our gpa allocations differ. The reason my HS gpa is so low is because I got a 2.2/2.4 for my freshman year and then a 3.3/3.83/4.0/3.8 for my sophomore and junior years.

Your sophomore year is really going to drag down your UC gpa. Like I said, calculate your UC gpa. It’s not hard.

Also, I know you’re pretty worried about the college process which explains your frantic posting of chances (in all the UC forums) this early, but there’s really no point in doing so. Just do the best you possibly can and get the highest test scores you can possibly get (though test scores don’t seem to matter much anymore). Contrary to popular belief, chance threads don’t improve your chances :P. They’ll either make you overconfident in your admissions (which can hurt when you find out the results) or make you despair. Just chill and relax, write good essays in November, do well in your remaining test sessions, and don’t waste your summer doing last minute volunteer work (enjoy your dam summer).

dude
no offense but that’s a pretty low gpa for a mid tier UC.
ur SAT will help but it might not be enough
and shiomi had a pretty good upward trend so thats a big plus on his side

Well I had a pretty horrible sophomore year too. I got a 2.8 both semesters and thought I was screwed but junior I raised my GPA and i got into UCSB so you still have a chance! :)

Hey there man.

You are in the same position I was in a year ago. My sophmore year sucked: new school, a senior level class, all A.P. and honors, no friends, and I was playing WoW for 6-8 hours a day (that ended when the year ended). I think my first semester GPA was a 3.4 (weighted) and second was a 3.0 (also weighted). The previous year I had a 4.0 with 8 units of college and junior year I pulled a 4.18 with some nice A.P. scores. This year, I’ve got 3 A.P. classes and 4 tests (econ/gov being the same class for listing purposes). I got in just fine to UCSB, even with my slip up sophomore year. The important thing is that you write a good essay and show improvement your junior year. Also, SAT/ACT is crucial. I’d take the SATs again to see if you can pick anything more up points-wise, and also try the ACT. 2100 is a very respectable score, but with some GPA issues, you need an outstanding score. The upper end of the 25-75% for UCSB is 27 or 28 on the ACT or about 1900 on the SAT. If you can outpace that by quite a bit it helps your chances.

Additionally, the only thing I could list on my extra curricular was martial arts, so I think your school related sports should give you a boost too. Do the best you can this year, talk to your teachers from last year and see if any of them can give you a grade change (this actually happens), and try the SAT and ACT one more time around each. Also, A.P. scores help a lot. I ended up with all 4s and 5s, so if you can do something similar, that places you in good position as well.

Good luck, mate =)
