Chances of Getting into UK & Irish Univerisities

I’ve just read a little about Newcastle (both the city and school) and it seems awesome-any objections/endorsements?

Our family just returned from touring 5 UK unis and TCD. My daughter loved Newcastle, but I admit LutherVan’s description of the residents is correct. We lived in New York City for over 15 years, and Newcastle definitely has a big city vibe- both the good and the bad. It has a rep for great nightlife and being a fun college town- Maybe too fun from a parents perspective :o. That said, my daughter plans to apply to Newcastle, and I think she would have a fine experience there- both academically and socially.

Since you are required to choose a course(major) when applying to a UK school, it is helpful to look at specific departments within a university. Check out http://www.unistats.com/ and http://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk in the subjects you are considering. Also, you can drill down in a unis’ web site to see exactly what you will study year by year.

What did you guys think of the other schools you visited?

I guess what I’m trying to ask is out of the following schools:

Manchester
Glasgow
Birmingham
Bristol
Newcastle
Leeds
Sheffield
Nottingham

Which are the best unis with good student life?

Glasgow

Manchestrr/Birmingham/Bristol

All great schools and great cities. Depending on subject Bristol is likely to have the highest entry requirements.
