Chances of Getting Into UK & Irish Schools

Hi,

I’m an American high school student entering my senior year and the two criteria that I’ve decided matter most to me in deciding my college is academic strength in the humanities (especially english and history) and an exciting, new location. Hence, I’ve been extremely interested in certain UK and Irish schools.

I realize that British schools care most about your academics, so I’ll post mine here, keeping in mind they’re respectable if not necessarily Ivy League material:

Unweighted GPA: 3.71
Weighted GPA: 4.69
*not that I’m sure this carries any weight with the brits but I go to a notoriously rigorous and competitive high school that is nationally ranked among the top 25 public schools

SAT CR: 780
SAT Math: 690
SAT II American History: 800/AP American History: 5
AP English Language and Composition: 5

Will find out my AP European History and SAT II Literature scores soon. Hopefully will have kicked butt on those, though all these schools are willing to take an assortment of SAT II and APs as long as they’re in different subjects.

So with all of that, what would y’all think my chances are at these schools, with the assumption I’m applying to the English course (or English and History course where it is offered). The ones I’m most interested in are the ones in major cities (London, Dublin, Edinburgh).

King’s College London
Queen Mary University of London
University of Edinburgh
Trinity College Dublin (with the possibility I might apply early decision!)

and maybe St. Andrew’s and University of Aberdeen

Thanks a bunch (and tell me if you guys have any suggestions for schools you’d think I’d like/have a good shot to get in in England)!

maybe university of glasgow as well

For Trinity College Dublin, you need an unweighted GPA of 3.3 and a minimum of 29 in the ACT OR a minimum score of 1300 on any two of the Critical Reading, Math and Writing sections and no score less than 500 in the SAT. The deadline for applications is 1 June and you can’t apply early decision in Ireland. You apply for individual courses here. Medicine and Law can be studied at undergraduate level. You also need to submit two teacher recommendations as a US student and a personal statement of 500 words on why you want to study your course. You may also have to arrange accommodation if you are accepted as IRISH students dont stay on campus past the first year, you move into a house (normally with other students). You also have to provide your own food etc. You only pay tuition and the the first year of campus housing here. Trinity College is the best college in Ireland so many other highly qualified students compete for places here. Good luck, Trinity Is amazing and I woukdnt change my time there at all.

TCD does have some housing for international students.

There is no early decision, but you are likely to hear back early.

For most courses, the minimums and a check book are all you need for admission, but not for Medicine and Law.

It says on the website that the deadline 1 February.
