Chances of getting into your college affiliation

My choices are : 9,10,crown,8,merrill
Major is: Human Bio

What are the chances of getting into my top two?

General consensus seems to be you’ll usually at least get into one of your top three. Your major has no bearing on where you will be assigned.

When do you sign up for which college you want? When you SIR?

Yes, when you SIR you are given the option to list your top five college preferences in order of preference.

Do you know if you SIR sooner you get a better chance of which one you want or is it random?

When you SIR has no bearing on which college you will be assigned to. It is random in the sense that they consider how many picked each college, what order they were placed in, and available space. I don’t know the exact formula.

For example, Porter takes significantly less affiliates because of less space than it used to have. For two years, there was construction on each of the two dorm buildings and this past year there was the TC. The TC is still an issue for next year as well so affiliates will remain low. Last year some transfers reported that they were being told no transfers would be accepted for affiliation (although a very small few reported being assigned when they placed it as their number 1). Freshman numbers have remained low, but a good deal more are accepted than transfers.

As long as your first choice is not Porter, you have a decent chance of getting what you want.

Oh, I don’t think the time of SIRing to UCSC has any effect on what college affiliation we’ll be assigned to this coming Monday. Yeah, from what I heard too, Porter’s a very popular choice. I’m hoping I could get into 9/10 and then crown.

And @Kender, where in the Bay area are you from? I’m from the bay area too. :D

My fingers are crossed you get your choices! My only complaint about 9/10 was the lack of elevators in some of the buildings, but I liked them other than that. Loved the style of windows since they worked better with my window fan than the windows at Porter do. Good, central location for getting most places on campus as well.

(also, sent a PM with the information you asked :))
