Hello everyone! Im a current senior who's completed all her college applications and currently awaiting all decisions to roll in. I just wanted to know my chances of getting accepted to NYU College of Arts and Sciences. First of all, I have 2/120 ranking at my school with a 96.08 unweighted GPA. I've also taken it upon myself to gain college credits by going to colleges to, of course, take college-level courses. At NYU's Summer Pre-College program for instance, I've taken Creative Writing and Poetry. At CUNY York College (as per the College Now system) I've taken: Environmental Biology, Genetics, and Aviation. 13 college credits total. I also have extracurricular activities such as volunteer work at my local library and museum, peer mediation and a technology club at my school, a job shadow opportunity at AT&T and lastly my privilege to be a part of the United Nations Human Rights Conference 2011. My only weakness is my SAT scores.

Math: 540

W: 520

CR: 440

Are my chances affected? Please let me know.

i have similar grades as you, and im hoping to get into nyu through heop because its a program for people who have low grades and a low income? do you have a low income? Cause my parents do? Normally for heop the college is supposed to contact you for an interview, and I know a lot of people who got called for an interview too. But I still didn’t get called. I called them last week and they said that they are still in process of looking at everyones application. I just hope I get called for an interview asap!

Yes, they do. Some schools rejected me for HEOP because of my high grades but thank god, NYU isn’t all based on that. I have a friend who got the interview too! And now Im waiting

when did you send in your application? and when did you send in fafsa, css profile, and tap?

Like in November, and yes I have. Im just confused when we find all this out because Shawn Abbot told me decisions will be emailed around 3/28

I applied in December but sent my financial aid things in like mid February, which I feel might be the reason why they haven’t called me yet?? when did you send in fafsa, css profile, and tap? cause I believe they look at our income and economic status through fafsa, css profile, and tap.

I did my FAFSA and TAP in January but my css in like the beginning of February. My friend that got the interview said that it wasn’t really an interview since there was a group of other people with you while a representative explains the HEOP process to you. She also told me that the time for interviews is almost done & that not everyone gets one. Its chosen through probability. /:

when i spoke to someone working at the ungrad office of nyu, they told me that the admissions committee refer applicants for heop based on academic and economic status. Then they heop gets our names and sends us an email for the heop session. As far as i know everyone who gets referred does get an email telling them to attend a session. Last year the sessions lasted till like march 20-26. When i called the nyu heop office, they told me that if i don’t get an email from them about heop, then i wasn’t referred by the admissions committee. And i know for a fact that i wont be able to get in through regular admission. So either we got rejected or we just have to wait a little longer.

if you don’t mind me asking but do you know how much your friends family income might be and how many family members there are? as well as yours? My family has an income of like 26,ooo and there’s 5 people in the house. And according the economic chart for heop i qualify because my dads income is way to low! For 5 people it’s supposed to be like 51,ooo.

I have no clue about her tbh but her SATs are no better than mine. She has a 1200. As for me, I also qualify for heop since theres 5 members & my family income is 32,000

1200 as her total sat score?

Yup! but her grades are close to mine but lower.

whaaaat? at that rate I believe we both definitely qualify for heop. Because even though our sat and income is low our other grades show that we have the ability to do well, and graduate from college.

which is what heop is looking for in a candidate!

I hope so! Binghamton rejected me for it because of high grades.

i talked to so many representatives from nyu, emailed so many people from nyu asking why i haven’t gotten any thing yet, but they never give me a proper response, or they just don’t respond at all. This is really annoying and pissing me off. If I don’t get an email from the by then end of this week, I will definitely call and demand them for an answer
