I’m a freshman at WashU and I got a 3.9 the first semester. I also got a 36 on the ACT, if they take that into account. I originally applied Early Decision to Duke and got deferred and then rejected. My senior year grades were pretty bad, I was kind of burned out and stopped caring after all the stress of college applications, but I don’t know if that’ll matter if they see I’m doing well in college. My extracurriculars are fine, I’m involved in a few things at WashU and did a lot in high school. My biggest question is how much it matters that I already attend a school of (basically) equal quality. Will this make me a top applicant? Or do I just need to cross my fingers?
They already rejected you. What changed?
Honestly, not much. I was fully qualified the first time I applied, but obviously they reject a lot of fully qualified applicants. But I’m giving it another try. Are they looking for “change”?
Your odds should be much greater now than as a HS senior, with that 3.9 from WashU. I applied as a transfer from Duke last year, and was ultimately accepted to Columbia, Penn, and Dartmouth, and waitlisted at Brown and Yale. Although I ultmately chose to stay at Duke (best decisiom I’ve made), I’d be happy to answer any questions you have regarding the transfer application process!
Basically, you need to really convince the adcoms what Duke has to offer you that WashU doesn’t.
@bgw999 Why do you want to transfer? What has your first semester been like at WashU?
