Hello, I'm a college-bound (hopefully) senior. I'm just wondering what my chances are of getting into Northeastern's Biology program off of the waitlist? Any input is welcome, be brutally honest. Thanks!

Some Basic Stats

SAT's:2100 (CR:790, W:690, M:620)

AP's: Biology (4) and Language and Comp (4) last year. Lit and Comp this year. (My school doesn't offer many more AP classes)

Courseload: The majority of my classes have been Honors

GPA:3.8

EC's: Track (9-12), XC (9-12), National Honor Society (11-12), NSHSS (9-12), and my schools honor society (9-10)

Other possible qualifications: 2nd place in our regional science fair, captain and manager of xc and track for the past 2 years.

Thanks for your time!

people with lower stats than you got in. How are you on the waitlist?

How did you get on the waiting list?

You should have gotten in. Your math score on the SAT is a little low for Northeastern. I would say you have a good shot of getting off the waitlist with your stats.

I just received an e-mail today telling me. I’m thinking it’s because of my math SAT score, and minimal EC’s. Come to think of it, my essay may not have been stellar either. There’s still hope though.

Sorry Proclivity, didn’t see yours when I wrote that. Thank you!

Do you know how tough getting into Bio program is?
I’m just confused a bit. You seem like the type of person they would allow in.

Do you have more Ec’s than you told us?
You should get off the waiting list pretty soon.

I have no idea about the admissions difficulty to be honest. As for EC’s, sadly that’s all I have. Thanks for the encouragement. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Oh yeah and I believe that’s my weighted gpa. Our school doesn’t give us uw. I did a rough calculation and my uw is a 3.5ish. Maybe they recalculated it? That could be it.

But for your AP courses your GPA would be higher than a 3.5. They supposidly add on 5 points to AP classes (I asked an admin rep).

Well good luck. I see no reason why you should not get off the waiting list.

If people like you can not get in at the first try then there is no hope for me.

I’m sure you have a good chance. I know this is cliched but it’s not just about numbers, it’s about how they think you’ll fit at their school. I never was able to visit the Northeastern or demonstrate my interest in a tangible way. Maybe that hurt me. (and if this was a numbers thing it could be that I’m a weak candidate for the bio dept.)

Keep your grades up and show them that you’re interested. I’m sure that either you’ll get in or you’ll find somewhere you like as much or more. Good luck!
