Chances Please URGENT!!!!

Hi all,

I am an International student, currently studying 12th Grade in the United Arab Emirates in a school which follows Indian curriculum CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education).

I just wanted to know what my chances are in getting admission into Cooper Union for Mechanical Engineering.

I dont have GPA grading in my school. The grading is purely based on marks obtained:
9th - 85%
10th - 90%
11th - 80%

If my school was giving GPA grading then my grading MIGHT (coz there is not accurate grading for the Indian curriculum) look like this:-
9th – 3.7+ / 4.0 (coz I got A’s in all my subjects)
10th – 3.7/4.0+ (coz I got A’s in all my subjects)
11th – 3.2-3.4 / 4.0 (coz I got a few A’s and a few B’s)

I had also recieved a half-fee scholarship in grade 11.

ACTIVITIES :
I have been selected to attend the Global Young Leaders’ Conference (GYLC) in Washington/New York this year.
Swimming
Singing
Made Robot for science exhibition
Created a presentation on the periodic table
Helped the team in coming 3rd in an inter-school robot competition
Part of the school Anti-Smoking Committee
I have been learning Indian Carnatic Music vocal for over 10 years and have give a 2 and half hour concert. I have also been learning Carnatic Music violin for over 3 years.

SAT SCORES:
MATH - 700
CR - 600
Planning to give it again to improve my score (hopefully 1350+).

Going to give SAT II's in November. Will get above 750 in maths, physics and chemistry.

Teacher Recommendations will be really good. Not sure what the school counsellor will write (but got info from previous school mates in US universities that we usually get really good recs).

Am going to start working on the essays when the apps are released and HOPEFULLY they should be good.

Responses will also be accepted for these universities as well UMich Ann Arbor, UVA, UIUC, UCLA, University of Notre Dame, Cornell, Penn State and Rose-Hulman.

Is there any difference in applying to a school which has the highest degree as Phd. when compared to a school which has a highest degree as masters.

Will appreciate all responses. good as well as bad.

Thanks all.

I will be applying there in the fall.
If you are considering cooper union... you will probably have to be perfect to get in. SATs don't matter much for cooper union [collegeboard.com is a good website for more info on stuff like that]

it also depends on your major. I'm going in for art. maybe business or engineering? art- requires you to be like.. godly in art. like a mini prodgey that needs a little fine tuning. engineering... you'd need to be almost perfect in math and same for english. if you're going for science... godly in math and science.

it is listed that you did all those presentations but the college won't know. so it wouldn't matter. it is what you get for your reportcard, sats, and recommendations as well as essays that matter the most. not so much on the school projects. extra curriculars... maybe. i have an amazing resume but it won't do me any good if it doesn't work with what i want to go in for. i have worked for a very famous global banking firm but it won't do me any good if i want to do art, do you know what i'm saying?

as for applying to a university that offers a higher level of education- no difference. it really doesn't matter. you don't get to go to graduate school [you apply as a undergrad when you graduate high school] right after you get a bachelor's degree. you need to reapply anyway. apply to colleges you like. cus you're not getting that masters yet anyway.

as for those other schools you listed, your sats are good. leave them. they're fine. but right now, our sats are on a 2400 scale... soooooo yeah. a good score would be 2100-2400. like up to that kinda standard. CR score needs to go up to 700. you have a chance. your grades has to go up more too. 95+ most preferred. its not what kinda student you are, it is the competitiveness your application stands in the applicant pool.

good luck!

Thanks a lot.

I shall work on increasing my GPA. Thanks
